Try this I'm assuming here this is the windows 7 laptop: Plug your adapter in and connect and power up the extended monitor, now start your computer when it's ready, do you not see anything on the extended monitor ? If not right click on blank area of your desk top, from the fly out window click on "Screen Resolution" in this view you should see display 1 & 2 next to one another, if this is the case where it says multiple displays click the drop down arrow and select "Extend these Displays" then apply and OK. If you are not seeing monitor 1 & 2 click detect and see if it finds it. Let us know how you get on.
