video adapter to video splitter
i'm not sure if someone has done this yet, i just bought 2 19" samsung high resolution lcd wide screen monitors, ( 1600 x..)and both has vga's on 'em, and i also bought a pc to monitor adapter ( not tv ), not knowing that the adapter doesn't support a high resolution monitors, i then ordered another adapter from Provantage that support a high resolution..this only has one vga out, i am thinking of buying another monitor so i can have 3 to use, if i buy a video splitter that has multiple vga out, and connect the adapter to it..will i be able to have dual display..? just wondering if this will work.. i thought about buying an external graphics card case. that just came out, i'm just wondering if its worth buying it, the case alone cost about $300 , not including the graphics card..

Whatever is on the splitter will be the same.

Re: video adapter to video splitter
so it's gonna be a cloned, instead of a dual display.. even though the pc to monitor adapter is connected to the splitter?

Re: video adapter to video splitter
My setup is VGA out of the computer (laptop) to a VGA Splitter I purchased from Radio Shack which has 4 VGA outputs (I paid about $100 a year ago).
From the VGA Splitter I run VGA cables to 3 monitors (1 Singers LCD Monitor 20" like you would use for a desk top then 2 to my LCD flat panel displays (they are high res but it doesn't matter when I use PC VGA source). Then I treat it like a dual display, desk top on my laptop and extend the desktop to the other monitor/flat panel displays and put the singers display there. Total cost I paid last year for splitter and 3 cables (1 25ft and 2 50ft), about $240 (VGA cables are expensive). They are bound to be more expensive now. Hope this helps. |

i'm not sure if that is right, i believed and also from what i read that video splitters only mirrored the same image as the main monitor, are you sure you do't have an adapter ? what you're saying might work on a laptop , since laptops has its own screen, and a seperate vga out, i have a desktop with 1 vga out.( 1 of the desktops i rebuilt/upgraded ).as of now i can have the dual display, but i cant play a music video on the extended screen, i am getting an out of sync problem, i don't have a problem playing music video on the main monitor it plays fine.. , reading from the manufacturers manual, i might not have the right video adapter, since it only supports lower resolution.. what i was asking was once i connect the video adapter ( that supports high res. ) that i ordered to the video splitter will i be able to have an extended display ?, btw both video adapter and splitter will be usb powered..if what youre saying work i will try using the splitter on my laptops..adapter and splitter cost me $70.00 |

I didn't notice that you were using a desktop with only 1 VGA output. From my past experience of trial and error will not allow for an extended desktop even with a "Y" cable/adaptor. If I were using a desktop I would find a video card that has a Digital output that supports dual monitor extended desk top (either with 2 digital outputs or 1 output with an adaptor or "Y" cable attached (ATI has made these)) or has 2 VGA outputs. One other option provided the mother board supports it would be to install another video card like what you are using already. I have seen this work for multi display configurations. Hope this helps! |

A VGA with one output will only display what is coming off of that output, no dual or extended capability. Best thing to do on a PC is just buy a cheap internal card, they are not hard to install at all and most are self installing. I got a 1GB memory ATI Radeon card from Tigerdirect for $50. |

Re: video adapter to video splitter
Interesting, never heard of a single VGA output being able to produce two separate signals with any converter. Do you have a link to the converter by chance?

Re: video adapter to video splitter
you can go to (removed link as it takes you to a jewelry website) , type in SEE2 triuv150, in search, or go to Provantage.com and type in AUV200F, or www.Aluratek.com you can find all kinds of converters for a single vga/dvi or hdmi i could show you a screen shot of my dual display..just don't know how

As long as you have a slot for the video card and I believe those do, then you can install a separate internal card and turn off the integrated card. I have done that for all Dell desktops I own. |

But with a PC, i'd just opt for a new video card that already has a dual display capability, just as cheap, easier & no external devices hogging up USB power/ports. |

Re: video adapter to video splitter
Yeah looking at the actual model from Dell I see what you are talking about. The USB solution looks good :g

Re: video adapter to video splitter
hopefully this new one from Provantage will work

Re: video adapter to video splitter
Just a thought, last week I bought a "AVlink 1x2 Distribution Amplifier 300 Mhz VGA Quad -xAG MSV12M" with USB & VGA connection ($60) local. USB Powers it and the VGA sends the video. It worked great on 2 extended monitors last week. I use Hoster 4.3 on a Toshiba dual 2 4 gig ram & 500 m HD. But I really wanted to have the video capable on the laptop too but can't seem to get that to work with a extended monitor. It seems it's one or the other. Tried all the configuration in Windows 7 but none give the laptop and extended video at the same time. Except, the small control window in the top left corner of Hoster on the laptop. When I'm out singing, I either have to have the extended monitor in view or try to read the small control window, boy my eye site isn't that good all the time.
Does anyone have an answer? Or is there something in the works for the next generation?:e |

Try this I'm assuming here this is the windows 7 laptop: Plug your adapter in and connect and power up the extended monitor, now start your computer when it's ready, do you not see anything on the extended monitor ? If not right click on blank area of your desk top, from the fly out window click on "Screen Resolution" in this view you should see display 1 & 2 next to one another, if this is the case where it says multiple displays click the drop down arrow and select "Extend these Displays" then apply and OK. If you are not seeing monitor 1 & 2 click detect and see if it finds it. Let us know how you get on. |
