A bad cable could certainly cause the buzzing, however it wouldn't interfere with the sync IF it is just the cable. It sound more hardware related - possibly in the sound card.
I had similar issues years ago when the motherboard of my PC started to go bad. I would get all kinds of random buzzes & graphic issues - both swipes and artifacts. Then one day the songs just stopped playing even though the computer was still up and running. It had nothing to do with Hoster.
