Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

I didn't put anything in when it asked for me to specify my DSN, so when I used your link to check it, it said everything is running as it should! Also, I apologize if I was a pain yesterday, I just was so upset. I fixed the problem by creating a new path for my songs to be in and it was MTU\Songs.mdb I copied all my songs which were always on my computer to that file and now am running perfectly! I ran 5.07 all night lastnight without a hitch! I do love this program and am glad you always seem to fix what happens in a major upgrade! WE are back online and running very well! THANK YOU!

The K volume for your drive is OK, I only queried it as it was an unusual selection.
Which version were you running before you lost most of your songs ?
If you were previously running an earlier version than 5.03 then you would need to follow these instructions first: http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?t=13002

What I was trying to do was get you back to a time & version that was working OK for you. The reason being the 5.07 install allows you to run both your old version and the new version in unison with one another.
If you do as you ask above with a completely new install it will only load version 5.07 as it would be as if you had no previous version installed unless you re-install your previous good version first.
If you do that I should make sure your previous version is running correct before installing 5.07.

If you want to go down the route of a completely new install of 5.07 only then I would try this:
First make a backup of your Hoster folder that can be found in the C:/MTU folder, save somewhere safe like a usb stick, another drive or CD, this may be helpful if you want to recover lost play list and singers list or other info later.
Now un-install Hoster then clear out the Hoster registry by following these instructions:
http://www.mtu.com/faq-test.php?article=26.
Doing this will lose all your instabutton settings and all previous settings.
Then look in the C:/MTU folder and if there is still a Hoster folder (not the backup one you saved earlier) Delete it. then re-install Hoster but be aware if you do this you will probably lose all play lists, singers list, and other settings, it should be as if you never had Hoster installed.
The backup of the Hoster folder would have saved some settings like singers lists and play lists and certain other data which you may be able to recover later but not the instabuttons as they are stored in the registry keys..
Roy,
Not meaning to hi-jack this thread but you mentioned something that has been a mystery to me for a long time. You said "the instabuttons are stored in the registry keys". Is this also true with the latest song additions under the song count for the songbook?

Short answer No. For some reason that is only known to MTU, they seem to store all references to instabuttons in the registry.
All songs data is still stored in the songs.mdb along with the kma files and the kmh headers files.
Perhaps Admin or some other staff member could explain that point better.

Don't know the absolute answer. My bet is the number of NEW songs added to the Songs.mdb AFTER you "approve" that you have reprinted your Songbook is stored in a Registry Key. That's the ONLY place we store persistent data, and this count is definitely retained.

The reason I asked, in order to back up my main computer to my backup computer, I copy the entire MTU file and store it on my external drive. I then delete the MTU file on my backup computer and paste the backup MTU file that I stored on my hard drive. Everything seems to work ok except if I have any new song counts in the main computer they are back to 0 on the backup computer. Of course the insta buttons are gone as explained by Roy. I hope I made this clear enough.

Registry Keys are NOT stored in a user controller folder, such as C:/MTU/Hoster. You would need to copy them using RegEdit to edit your Registry Keys, and that gets dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

Doing the copy as you indicate above could be dangerous. We RECOMMEND you rebuild the Songs Database, and refresh the Singers Database when you copy then to a new computer. In the Songs.mdb case, if all your KMH/KMA files are not on the external drive in the SAME drive/folder/sub-folder/etc. path, rebuilding it will NOT duplicate the Songs.mdb identical to the Show computer.

Wow! Could be dangerous?...I better change my ways. Thank you very much.

If you understand RegEdit, then use it. Most users don't do this and if they copy the wrong data, it could mess up their Registry. Recovering from that takes true "techy knowhow", and we don't like to educate anyone to this level by phone, forum or support ticket.

I know messing with the registry can be a disaster. What I was refering to as dangerous was your reference to coping the mtu folder. I have done this for long time when setting up a backup computer and have never had any problems but I don't want my luck to run out. That is what I meant by "I better change my ways" as to doing my backup setup as you suggested.

Thanks,

Walt

Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

Can someone answer these questions?
1. Will 5.07 and all future upgrades keep the prior installed version as a working copy on my computer.
2. If the answer to #1 is yes will future upgrades (eg. 5.08) keep a version of 5.07 as a working copy as well as the prior version kept by the 5.07 upgrade. I'm asking if with each upgrade will I have another old copy of the software, eventually ending up with many copies of old software installations?
3. Will prior versions kept on the computer be uninstallable through the remove programs application in Windows without affecting the most recent version? If not, how can prior versions be removed?

This is a new idea just in case someone experiences problems with an update, I think that will depend on responses from users if they like it or not.

No, i don't see that happening it will just be the previous version you were using at that time.

No you can't uninstal it, It is not a full install of Hoster, it is just an executable file about 2.5 MB in size so won't gobble up your hard drive space. If you don't want the HosterPrior version showing on your desktop just delete the shortcut icon for it.

You can always start the program from C:/Program files(x86)/Micro Technology Unlimited/Hoster folder. That's the path if it on windows 7.
You could actually just delete the HosterPrior.exe file from there but don't do that to the Hoster.exe file.

Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

I loaded 5.07.05 on Tuesday (5/15) and had a show on 5/17. I had about 10 songs on the playlist at the beginning of the show.

When I clicked the start button, I got an error message (something to the effect) "KMA files not available."

Then every song on my playlist that were showing "Ready" became "Unavail."

I shut Hoster down and restarted it and did not have any more problems the rest of the night. Everything came back as it was prior to this message.

I also did a show Saturday night without any problems.

This is a new one on me. I have never seen the KMA error message before...

Just thought I may need to post this!

Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

Are all your KMA files on an external drive ?
It sounds to me like it hadn't registered the connection of the drive.
This can happen if you start Hoster too quick after plugging in an external drive. or plugging in the drive after starting Hoster.

Roy,

All of my KMA files are on the C: Drive. None are on an external hard drive.

I only use an external hard drive for mp3's and I "always" plug it in "before" I boot up so the computer can find on start-up...

Hoster had been up for over an hour while I played music before the show. This is my normal routine. I add the early singers to the playlist as they come up, while the music is playing.

As I stated earlier, this has never happened before. I just thought it needed posting...

Smile Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

Hello, not really sure if it's a glitch or just some corrupted files. On random songs (different brands but by weird coincidence the ones that I sing the most) at the end they "hang", they don't stop properly. The screen goes blank and the counter stops. It plays perfectly up to that point. I did just recently upgrade to 5.07, never had this problem before, however, the other problems I had before (which were really more serious) have been cleared up and I am very happy with this new upgrade. I tried turning off "remove silence" and turning it back on, it always hangs. I tried re-ripping the songs, still does it. Thought it was a brand issue but as I mentioned all the songs it happens in are different brands. Also, using background audio feature. Also updated graphics drivers from asus site. My system specs are as follows:

Asus laptop
Intel core i7
ATI gpu HD 5730 w/ 1gb
4gb RAM
500 gb Harddrive

Songs are played from a Western Digital 500 gb harddrive.

Thanks:

Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

If you Play the same songs using the HosterPrior version does it still hang ?
Does still hang if BA is turned of ?
Are they all a specific type like CDCCG, HDMP3,HDZIP or something else ?

I don't think this would help with the problem you mention but might be worth a try. Tools/Audio dialog is a control at the bottom for prevent audio dropouts, ranges 0 to 20 try adjusting it at it's extremes see if it has any effect.

Also in the same dialog check the fade settings.
In the remove silence dialog check the after audio ends silence setting.

Re: Post Hoster 5.07 Problems Here

Ok, I have tried your suggestions. I have turned off remove silence all together, I've also turned off bkgrd audio. I also tried the audio control at both extremes, it still hangs! All of these songs that hang are HDMP3G files. I would try the hosterprior suggestion, but unfortunately, like an idiot, I deleted that shortly after upgrading (I'm a computer neat freak) thinking I didn't need it anymore. But, I know for a fact that I never had this problem on as many songs as I am now. Could all of these files have become corrupted?

How did you delete the Hosterprior, did you just delete the shortcut ?
If so you will still have access to the prior version from: C/Program files (x86)/Micro Technology Unlimited/Hoster in the folder you should see the HosterPrior.exe file, either create another shortcut to it or just double click the icon, this should be a copy of your previous version, you can check that from the Help/about Hoster.
See if it still hangs with that version.
You state in your first post that your songs are on an external drive, could you copy one to your C/drive and try loading it using the K-oke button and see if it still hangs at the end, if it doesn't this might mean the problem is related to the external drive.
Do you have any other programs running at the same time ?
I take it you have followed all the new recommended changes to windows, especially the power managment settings mentioned here: http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/windows7-changes.htm
