For the updates click on Start and find the Windows Update on the menu and click on it. When you get to the Microsoft Update web page, click on the Custom button. The web site will check your computer and then tell you what is available. Install everything .

To defrag, open My Computer, right click on the C drive and go to Properties. Across the top of the Properties window find the Tools tab. Defragment is the middle one. Click on the button and that will take you to it.

Both of these operations will take some time but are well worth it.

First, as can be seen, it is not clear that Hoster 3.321 is failing. However, since a number are experiencing the "3" import and then crash, there does seem to be something going on. I've scheduled it to be reviewed this coming week. We're closing in on Hoster 4.0 release.

I'll be looking for your post as to what happens when you do CUSTOM update of Windows.

I could not recreate the "import three CD tracks and 3.321 crashes" bug that is being reported here. Hoster did not crash.

Proof that this problem is not a simple bug in Hoster. It is system related, and that's harder to diagnose.

Before I found that other program, I carried a separate CDG Player just for playing Singer's Disks. (I still do)

I attribed my problem to using an old laptop that just wasn't fast enough. But now I have a dual-core with all the bells & whistles & still Hoster crashes when I Add a Song from a Singer's Disk at the same time Hoster is running a Show.
Low RAM can cause all sorts of unexplainable problems. Since we are importing a CDG track, that can require 30-90MB RAM during the import, the actual track being imported may also be significant. Shorter duration files may work and longer ones not.

Since some others don't experience it, the strong indication is there is some system dependency is at play here. 512MB RAM today, with all the Windows Updates that continually are downloaded and installed, could explain the problem.

The fact you have had a problem with this for 2 years is painful to hear. I thought everything was smooth with this CDG import.

Is it possible to upgrade your RAM to 1GB?

I can see now that 512RAM on my old laptop was not enough. I just assumed my laptop was too slow in many ways, so I didn't try adding more RAM.

My new laptop has 2Gig of RAM, but has a poor internal drive. I should have said that I have not yet tried hooking up the USB Plextor to my new laptop. After reading everyone's posts, I believe it will work.
Thanks for responding.

Well I've done the custom updates and I believe that did the trick. thank you, thank you , thank you

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, but I have continued to try to do the defragging before I gave this test a try and it just runs forever at the present time it has been running for 15 hours. I have cancelled and tried again several times any idea why this is happening or am I not patient enough.

I did the test anyway and it seems to be working fine!!!

Thanks again for all your help, Stu (looking forward to 4.0).

How much free space (percentage) does the defrag program show on your drive when you analyze it?
The minimum recommended is 25% of the drive. This allows Windows to have enough room for temporary files and operating room. Defrag does not do well and takes extreme amounts of time if there isn't more than 25% free space for it to move files segments around to get the fragmentation out. Defrag will also be very slow if the amount of fragmentation is excessive. I have run Defrag for as long as 24 hrs for it to get done (not my computers....at work )

I don't know if anyone is still reading this post, but I'm having this problem again. I am constantly doing all the updates and defrags and I'm still having sporatic problems loading customers cdg's on my vista machines with 3.321.

Sometimes Hoster crashes and sometimes the lyrics and music get out of sync. I never had this problem with any previous version of Hoster. So I don't think it can be blamed on updates or cd/dvd players. I suppose it can be blamed on vista, but I think there is a problem that still needs some attention. If there is a solution that I'm not aware please advise!

4.0 is almost ready for XP, and maybe not long afterwards for Vista!
