On your recovered Kma files, does My Computer, which I'm not a big fan of using, show a number larger than ZERO in the SIZE column?

Such As: example 1
SD001-1.kma 5483 KB KMA File 08/15/2006 01:52 AM

And Not: example 2
SD001-1.kma 0 KB KMA File 08/15/2006 01:52 AM

There was a question as to whether your Recovered KMAs had anything in them.

If example 1 is correct, then, your KMAs were recovered correctly and all that would be necessay is to Open your Build Songs Database and set the correct folder(s) and rebuild the Database. Then, Hoster will be able to Play the KMAs, as Hoster will know where to look for the KMAs.

i'm sorry to say if you backed-up you hhd with the song files missing, your back-up copy might end the same way..you said you have a western digital hhd..they have a program that wil do a full scan of any hard drive ( int. or ext )that is plugged in your laptop..your hhd might be dying..i have a few songs that i know that is in my hhd, but when i do a search i get a no song match..the only way for me to fix this was to re-import them back..and merge my song database..

Just hooked back up to Paretologic and am recovering again. Will look to see if the files actually have content (see above) and go from there. Will make a new backup on my "book" and hope for the best.

I'm scared to put a backup copy of the newly released Hoster on my laptop but don't know how to find out if I can install an older, more reliable version - that way I can at least do shows with the stuff I've already done. Anybody know how I can request an older version?

i'm not sure if this will work but try going to mtu's web site and click on downloads, once you get there click on the older version maybe 3.317, but i think you have to removed 3.319 before you can download the older version, before you do this make sure to not to completely removed 3,319 out of your computer, just in case you can not dowload the older version, if you have a windows vista do not download anything below 3.317, if you have xp then you can download any older version..try 3.316..again im not sure if this will work..sorry but i went to dowloads myself and i dont think is going to work,my best bet is go to mtu web support and ask them if you can download the older version...

Uploading an older version of Hoster for backup.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will find an older version (I don't have MTU Hoster on it now, just Hoster Lite, which I want to basically remove and install my backup copy of the full Hoster on it). Seems like I'll really need to have this backup until such time as the bugs are worked out of the new release. (Laptop runs XP, not Vista, amen.)

Okay, didn't read far enough into your post. Will contact support live...

do not removed hoster lite, you can use it as a back-up the only diff. bet. the 2 was you can not create a song book and import singers disc on hoster lite..if you install the full version and you decided to completely unistall it , then you gonna have to have your registration re-set..

Haven't done anything yet - will wait to talk to someone in support. Still recovering and crossing my fingers that all the files come back intact and with the file content (not empty).

Ditto here Karen. I lost 19,000 plus. They are nowhere to be found. I know how you feel.

There is no worse feeling. Do you have the "latest and greatest" version? I didn't even do an upgrade - this was my first version. Arggg.... BTW, latest attempt at recovery yields only a few songs...

You have my deepest sympathy.

How many people are losing songs with XP & the current version?
I lost several regular music files with Vista & Hoster wasn't even running.

Karen,
Try this before you run the recover program. Open My Computer and go to the folder where your files are supposed to be (filenames with 0KB). Up top in the header area of My Computer should be a button for Compatible Files. Click that and see if the file sizes change. If so then try Hoster.

did you have them backed up ? if you did, if it were me.....

i would un-install hoster.....run a registry cleaner.....re-install maybe 3.316 then copy my back up kma's to my internal hard drive (i have a desktop) then rebuild my data base.

just because you have hoster 3.319 installed, it wont search your hard drive for kma's and delete them (at least i dont think it would...right admin?) it would only have deleted the files you selected when you build your data base.

Karen, we researched your choice of "Paretologic". It is a SERVICE performed over the Internet. It does not download a program on your computer that you run locally.

There is a FATAL FLAW in this type of service for restoring files. If anything goes wrong over the Internet connection, or data is corrupted in either direction, you can have unknown failures.

I personally called you - very rarely done - to personally hear what was really happening. After hearing your facts, and you were much more technically astute that I expected to find, I did several hours of research. I came up with SpinRite from GRC.com. I am confident that if you had used this product, which you buy, download and run locally, your bad sectors on your hard drive would have been read, correctly rebuilt, moved to a known good sector, and the bad sector logged out of use.

As it is, Paretologic only restores the NTSF table entries that were damaged. It makes it APPEAR the files are there, but in reality only the pointers were restored; not the actual files.

If you had followed my instructions, I am sure you would have MORE files restored than now. Furthermore, SpinRite has a "drive health" detection and display of how good or bad off your drive is. With this, you would KNOW whether it is the drive.

Our Beta Testers are testing Hoster 3.320 Beta 2 right now. We have worked for 2 days trying to find HOW Hoster could have caused any way to KMA files to be deleted from your HDD. There is nothing we are doing that can cause this.

In my 40 years in business, starting with microcomputers in 1972, my engineering teams have created around 140 products that came to market. I can tell you without any reservation that NEVER ONCE has a customer lost files becuase of our products. NEVER. In fact, our Digital Audio Workstation was so reliable that users in South America, where power black-outs happen daily on a rotation basis, loved Microeditor because even if they were deep into a job when the power went, they never even lost a single edit, much less a file. We have used the same technology in Hoster to insure your open Playlist is absolutely safe, even if power drops, or the computer crashes. Reboot, run Hoster, your playlist automatically reopens and you are right where you were seconds earlier.

We expect to release 3.320 today or tomorrow. We're waiting for our Beta Testers around the world to give us their feedback. Our own internal testing has proven it to work as we engineered it to.

well, even after doing the recovery, and giving up on that....then manually re-entering Pioneer discs, those Pioneer song files also disappeared!

I did get the SpinWrite and downloaded it but I wasn't able to figure out how to use it and the instructions I received from there were not something I could understand, either.

I guess I'll take my computer in to my geeek and see if there is by chance something wrong with it. In the meantime, I'd love an opportunity to get an older version of Hoster if possible? I have a ticket in.

Just how many of us have lost files? So far I count about 6 of us. Anymore? I know I would feel alot better if everyone lost all of their files. That way I wouldnt feel so all alone........NOW THATS FREAKIN FUNNY. Laughter is the best medicine. Along with a better bug free hoster. I am going to load them all up again as soon as the ADMIN tells me when how and where.

I guess I'm just going to put this on hold, too...again. Took me a year to finally commit to doing the project, and then a MONTH to get it prepared. Feel like the rug has been pulled out from under me. It is embarrassing, too, when other hosts I know, with whom I talked up this program BIG TIME, ask me how my first night went using it...and I have to explain that I haven't been able to use it. Sure hope something good happens!

Video Hoster 3.320 is released.

It fixes the problems some users had loosing files, which has never happened before at MTU in 30 years. This is a free upgrade if you bought Hoster or an upgrade since May 30, 2006.

View the changes and download V3.320 at: Download and Versions Page.

Click here to view what changed in Hoster 3.320.

Why do so few 3.318/3.319 users loose files? The problem came from our trying to make ALL ZIP files work. I truly regret we ever started support for ZIP files, but now we have a near air-tight support for about 12 different ZIP file error conditions, including MAX compression that WinZIP and Windows Media Player won't even play. We have removed all code that deleted the folder used to unzip files. Part of the randomness was based on what other programs were running with Hoster, or before it ran.

The code that could go errant runs whenever Hoster starts up and shuts down. We have re-created it at MTU, and don't yet know what Windows is doing that triggers wiping out so many KMA and other files in a few seconds. The files are not deleted, so the NTSF file system index is being damaged.

If you are fearful to install 3.320, I don't blame you. However the code that could do the deletion was identified and removed.

One thing I can say, and Karen K has proven,as long as you continue to run 3.318 or 3.319 your files are vulnerable.
