Jsut on an off chance I am going to ask this. Have you done a search of the entire C: drive to see if you can locate the files?
Have you looked to see if there are any files in that location?

Just a hand full of songs. Its all gone . At least I have lots of free space on my drive now..... I guess I'll wait for MTU to fixit and send me another upgrade and start loading up cdg's againnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Well all did not go exactly as it was appearing to - When I got everything recovered and back to where it belonged, I began looking randomly for songs. They showed on a search but then when I clicked on to play it, it said it wasn't found. So I had the shell of the listing but no actual files. I have had to go in and reload all my Pioneer CDGs, and who knows what else. I'm thinking I probably got 80% back which is better than nothing. It will probably take a while to figure out what else is missing. I'm really afraid to take this to a show without the player and discs.
I'm chalking this up to bad timing on my part, getting a newly released upgrade. NEVER a good idea. Sorry to hear about your corporal punishment, which is what I have come to call loading CDGs. |

Thats really freaky because the only songs that I found were pioneer 19. And they play great. If I'm not mistaken the were on the demo version. The demo that made me fall in love with Hoster. The one before the evil, satanic worshiping, black sabbaths first album cover UPGRADE. I curse you and spit on your grave. better go to sleep this has been a FREAKIN NIGHTMARE.

And the nightmare continues....
After doing the recovery, which recovered 99% of the lost files, I discovered that even though the .kma is listed, the song is not found. So, added all the lost Pioneers. This morning I run a search for find all .kma - almost everything is gone again....
I am ready to throw in the towel on this. I spent $1500 to do this conversion, and have spent literally hundreds of hours...The prospect of now having to spend probably another 200-300 hours on uploading my CDGs AGAIN is not a good one for me. I'm ready to jump the fence here and go with the competition as it doesn't seem to matter what I do with this software, I'm wasting my time. I understand that people who created this upgrade are going crazy trying to 'fix' this but that doesn't help me right now. About had it.... K |

the minute you recovered your files, you should have backed them up to another hard drive.
plus you should have uninstalled hoster as it has a flaw in the version 3.319

Did you do a search on your hard drive for .kma files?

For those new to this thread: Let me reiterate a little.
Purchased new computer, MTU Hoster software at the beginning of February. Proceeded to load 925 CDGs....Saturday last, everything was loaded....had a library of 15,000 songs roughly. Set up in living room, computer, dual monitors, speakers, etc. Everything worked great. Set to do show Monday night. Monday morning I go back on computer to check something. All of a sudden i have only 3,173 songs....Did an explorer search for .kma files. Gone. Manage to find online software to do a recover and appeared to have recovered 10,000 files that were missing. Move all the recovered files to the correct drive ... begin searching for songs randomly and find that all PIONEER CDGs are NOT there....but everything else appears to be there. Yesterday reload all the Pioneer CDgs (quite a number of them) By the time that chore is finished, do another search and BINGO, more songs gone. This morning I do a search for .kma files, lots missing again. Rather, what seems to happen is the files are there but there is nothing in the file apparently. In the meantime, after the apparent successful recovery, I back the drive up to a Western Digital 500GB book (brand new). I'm thinking woohoo, everything is safe....but now I am concerned that this backup will contain those empty files. Don't mean to rag on anyone here but after spending a substantial amount of money on what I consider to be the best program for computer hosting, the new computer, and the HUNDREDS of hours (most of you can relate, who have ripped CDGs), I'm at my wit's end. Again: New computer (clean 500-GB drives), NOT AN UPDATE OF HOSTER but the NEW RELEASE from the end of January....COMPUTER IS NOT ON LINE AT ALL. No power failures. Can't think of anything else I might have done so can only assume it is software. I have a laptop with Hoster Lite on it but am afraid to try and run the backed up copy on the WD "book" in case the files are corrupt or something weird...or will just find that everything I thought was good is empty. ARGGGGGG.....Sorry, don't mean to offend. Not my nature, really. Just now swinging at the end of my rope. K |

On your recovered Kma files, does My Computer, which I'm not a big fan of using, show a number larger than ZERO in the SIZE column?
Such As: example 1 SD001-1.kma 5483 KB KMA File 08/15/2006 01:52 AM And Not: example 2 SD001-1.kma 0 KB KMA File 08/15/2006 01:52 AM There was a question as to whether your Recovered KMAs had anything in them. If example 1 is correct, then, your KMAs were recovered correctly and all that would be necessay is to Open your Build Songs Database and set the correct folder(s) and rebuild the Database. Then, Hoster will be able to Play the KMAs, as Hoster will know where to look for the KMAs. |

In The Business Of Recovery.....
So I took the harddrive backup that I had made after recovery. I was able to fully recover 60% of my songs. So instead of reloading 15,000, I'm reloading around 5,000 songs. Copied from 500GB book to C:\hoster songs, rebuilt song database, and was VERY, VERY happy to see so many songs come back. Today will spend the entire day uploading the Pioneer series, which seems to be the ones that are missing....but will continue to query system for disc ID, choose one song from the top of the list, the middle, and the last song, because on one of the discs the last 6 songs were not there...
I hope others were as fortunate. At the end of the uploading session, before I turn off Hoster, will do a backup! Learned my lesson! Karen |

Lost Music And Don't Want To Reload?
Yesterday I lost all my .kma's in Vista and purchased a program called ParetoLogic @ paretolocig.com and recovered all by doing advanced recovery. Note to MTU techs:

If you delete a folder from the Build Database dialog it does not actually delete the folder, but just removes it from the list for the database to build from. The only way you could delete one is if you do so in the browse window when you are looking for a folder. This is a Windows function and not one of Hoster.

![]() ![]() ![]() Today, we have researched and discovered what Microsoft is doing in Vista. It is truly unbelievable! In a nut shell: "Data redirection, also known as data virtualization, provides a driver for the file system and registry that will redirect files written to the hard drive targeted to store in protected locations, such as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software or C:\ProgramFiles\, to the user’s profile. For example, if a member of the Users group is logged onto a machine and runs an application that writes a file back to the Program Files folder (ex: C:\ProgramFiles\Hoster\Songs for KMA files), this write will fail. Why? Because the access control list (ACL) on the Program Files folder does not allow standard users to write to that location. When the data redirection file system driver receives the failed return code from this write, it writes a copy of the file in C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\, which is in the user’s profile." In essence, when your Vista User Access Control (UAC) Bit is ENABLED, Vista never created the folder you thought you were importing into. Thus, when you deleted that folder from Hoster's Build Songs Database (BSD) list, and looked on the hard drive for it, it was never there in the first place. It was created in the |VirtualStore\ path! ![]() ![]() Even though writing to a file under C:\Program Files\ worked perfectly under 2000 and XP, Vista TRANSPOSES all writes to files in this folder to be under C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Micro Technology Unlimited\Hoster\Songs. This full path does NOT appear in our BSD list, but seemed to. We have decided the only way to "come clean" with Vista is: 1. PREVENT UPGRADING. You must MANUALLY move all the KMA files out to a new C:\MTU\KMA Files folder, and your Playlists to C:\MTU\Hoster. All Hoster working files will be in this folder (songs.mdb, bucket.mdb, playlist001.hst, log files, etc.). We won't move then for you, and we won't force you to find files 12-16 folder levels deep. ![]() 2. You will NOT disable the UAC bit to use MTU software. Microsoft has now made this so incredibly painful that Hoster 3.321 will conform, and soon all other MTU programs to prepare for the onslaught of Vista. 3. You must agree that you have moved all the files you want to keep before you can advance in the Hoster 3.321 installation program. That insures you understand beyond a shadow of a doubt that MTU is not responsible if your files disappear. We now know we aren't, and weren't, but we are being blamed for it. This ONLY applies to those UPDATING from a prior Hoster install under VISTA. New installs will progress normally with no problems, and nothing to move. Same simplicity with upgrading or new installs under 2000 or XP. ![]() Once installed, 3.321 files and folders are "Vista Honoring". We hope to get a beta test version out tomorrow so we can release 3.321 this week. |
