I'm having the same exact problem. And on top of that everytime i try to install direct x 8.1, it makes my computer useless by shutting down explorer every time i click on ANYTHING.
i have windows 98
celeron 466 processor
256 memory
rage pro graphics

this is the message i get when KHP shuts down:
