Yes, but in each of those instances you cited, a change was made in the registry which caused a restore point to be created. When the restore worked you were still faced with having to reinstall the current version.

In Beta Testing the endless installations triggering registry changes makes the probability of a successful restore on the first try very high. Not so with the rank and file users.

When no such restore point events occur, no new software or upgrade installations triggering a rergistry change, and things are going along well, then suddenly a glitch pops up, the probability of a system restore working are next to nill, unless one keeps going back in time on a trial and error basis. That appears to be the case here and is why I opted to cut to the chase and re-install the software to begin with.

In thinking this through I realized the obvious solution is to create one's own restore points on a regular basis. I intend to do that weekly from now on, just prior to cloning my drive.

I'll bet hardly anyone thinks to create their own restore points when things are working. I know I never have.
