When the restore worked you were still faced with having to reinstall the current version. In Beta Testing the endless installations triggering registry changes makes the probability of a successful restore on the first try very high. Not so with the rank and file users. When no such restore point events occur, no new software or upgrade installations triggering a rergistry change, and things are going along well, then suddenly a glitch pops up, the probability of a system restore working are next to nill, unless one keeps going back in time on a trial and error basis. That appears to be the case here and is why I opted to cut to the chase and re-install the software to begin with. In thinking this through I realized the obvious solution is to create one's own restore points on a regular basis. I intend to do that weekly from now on, just prior to cloning my drive.
