Angry Hoster3.316

I was having trouble with an older version of Hoster and couldn't figure out the problem. Originally I purchased Version 3.06 Suite 4 and everything was working great. I started having trouble about a week ago. I tried to find the problem but without success. I couldn't open Hoster or any of the other programs I purchased. I bought a whole new version Hoster 3.16 and Suite 4 again. I have been able to install all the programs but I can't install Vogone. But my main problem is still with Hoster. When I try to open Hoster I get this message. " unrecgonized database format 3343) 'C:/Program Files/Micro Technology Unlimited/Hoster/Databases/songs.mdb.'Then I get another message that reads cannot find the jeterr 40 chm file. I don't know what all this means. I really like the Hoster program and I am anxious to get it up and running again. Can anyone help me. I'm not a computer genius but most of the time I can follow simple directions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Jeanne

Delete the songs.mdb file and then open Hoster and rebuild the database

My computer is supposed to automatically update. If I delete the song database will I have to reload all the songs again from the hard copies?

First the "Automatic" update only installs Microsoft deemed "critical" updates. You need to go to Microsoft Updates and do a "Custom" update and load all items. This will update the Net.Frame and other updates that are not done automatically but are needed.
Secondly, deleting the songs.mdb file will not delete all the songs you have imported. Delete both songs.mdb and songs_backup.mdb, then open Hoster. It will rebuild the database files and you are back in business.

Thank you for the info. I'm going to try it and hopefully I'll be back in business real soon. It sure is a bummer to think about hauling all those CD's again. Thanks again for the helpful information, it is really appreciated.

Talking Thank You

It worked. Thank you ever so much. I can't believe it! I was so afraid to do anything for fear of losing all my long hours of importing my CDG's. I thought it was hopeless. I am so glad I got on here and asked for help. This was a costly lesson but well worth the price in the long run. Thanks again.

Dale,
Out of curiosity, what does get deleted when we delete the song.mdb database file? In other words, what does this file contain?

your welcome

if i were you i would make a back up copy of your .kma's

buy a external hard drive (they are cheap) and drag and drop all you hard work to the external so in the event your hard drive fails you will be back in business in 30 minutes or less !

Songs.mdb is a database file that tells Hoster all the information about the kma files including the location (path) to the file needed. Consider songs.mdb as a road map for Hoster. Just because you throw away the road map doesn't mean the roads aren't still there. This could be done directly from the kma file, but would be extremely slow as Hoster would have to read the header for each kma file to find the one it was looking for.

I see, then what physically happens when one deletes a song.mdb file. How and when does it return?

When you "rebuild the database" a new file with the same name is created.

Angry Hoster install problems

I am using a new Dell laptop running Windows Vista. I uninstalled all MTU software. I updated windows, removed any flash drive and or backup hardware and disc from the computer. Still no luck. Stopped Virus ck. Message still: cannot install on more than two computers.

Do you have it install on two computers? If not submit a support ticket to get MTU to reset the registration so you can re-install. Simple as that.

No I had it on two computers but crashed and I was not able to reinstall.
I don't know why support does not do that. I have sent five trouble statementsmto them.
Thanks

Have you checked back in the Support Center on them for status? Also, bear in mind that they do not work on the weekend or nights. There are only 3 MTU employees and they are spread pretty thin. I am sure one would have been enough.
