You do realize that the dvd drive you list above isn't on the list of drives recognized by Hoster or Microstudio. That doesn't mean it won't work but this could be part of your problem.

Have you opened a trouble ticket with MTU? If not I would suggest you do to get MTUSupport on this problem.

I am presuming you didn't get any error messages when you imported the songs so those files should be ok. If you have another computer you could temporarily load Hoster on (you can load on 2 machines), copy some of those kma files to it, and try them this would eliminate/confirm import problems. If you can't do that then you might send one file (smallest one) to MTU or one of us for testing.

If the problem isn't in importing then it has to be in the playback. You say you get no video or audio but the counter is still moving. Are you looking/listening on the laptop or do you have a TV/audio system plugged in and looking there?

When you start a song do you see a black screen open up and does the small window upper left side go black as well?

You don't mention in your hardware description a sound card. I am sure there has to be one builtin. Make sure your CD, WAV, and master audio volumes are all the way up and not muted.

Check MTU's products. They have External drives and also have a laptop drive that they guarantee will work with their programs.

Even if your particular cdrom can't do the graphics it should be doing the audio at least.

Can you play mp3's or wma's from your hardrive using window media player or other music playing program?
If not, are your volume sliders turned up (and not muted) ? is the wave level turned up (and again not muted)?

While you are waiting for your new cdrom, I would be making sure you don't have a separate audio issue to boot.
