Here's an update on my situation. I finally got an update into my CAVS 199 that allowed it to become compatible with the Plextor 716UF. I can now capture cd&gs (including the dreaded Sound Choice variety) and am obviously happy at the moment. I am still curious about the Hoster though. I still want to make disk copy backups of my cd&gs for protection purposes. As stated previously, i've got a huge investment in my stash!
