![]() I currently have some songs on an internal HD and most on an external HD. When I try to build (rebuild) the songs database and rescan the files, the scan stops part way through and will not go further. What can I do to complete re-scanning the folders?

Re: Problems re-scanning songs in database
I had that happen to me a couple times, most likely you have a bad kma file somewhere. Once I found out which one & deleted (to reimport) the database rebuilt fine. Problem was the time it took to find the bad file.

Re: Problems re-scanning songs in database
It is probably that a file is corrupt in some way but it's a case of finding the corrupt file.
Can you state which version of Hoster you have ? Does it always stop at the same point or number ? Are you using the Rescan Folders button or the Rebuild database button ? If you have many folders in your list of folders window below the add folders button, if you scan them individually do any of those individual folders complete ? If some complete and others fail note the failed folders as the corrupt file should be in that folder. Come back when you can answer all the above questions.

What I would try to narrow it down is to split the contents of the bad folders to try and narrow down were the problem file. Example copy half the contents of a folder to a tempory folder then see if the remaining folder will add to the rebuild list without erroring out. If it errors still you can be pretty sure the corrupt file is in that part of the folder, you might get a clue if you note how many files it processes before it fails. It that part completes alright then the problem is in the rest of the files that you placed in the tempory folder so you could again split this folder into smaller sections again and then add each smaller part to to folders list. Once you do find the culprit and remove it you can either leave them all in their seperate folders or use " Ecluded folders button" again to remove the tempory folder then move all the files back to the original folder then rescan the that folder again or when you finish rebuild the database.

Re: Problems re-scanning songs in database
I expect there could be numerous reasons, for instance if a hard drive got an section error then the file in that spot would be damaged.
When you do a hard drive check it normally repair the hard drive section but it may not repair the file that was on that part. Files can still be damaged, I think you may be confusing it with copied files stay at the same quality as the original unless you compress it more than an original. But with the old tape recordings, every copy lost something from the original for each copy you took.

Re: Problems re-scanning songs in database
The disc repair is a windows repair, I can't remember with Vista if you have to enter a command from the Run command might have to use run/chkdsk, on Windows 7 you right click on the drive, open properties and a dialog opens with options, the Tools tab then shows options to Check, Defrag or Back up.
As I stated doing this won't repair the spots in your files you will have to re-import them to do that.

![]() Hi All,
I want to thank you guys, Roy, Lonman and Skybird 74 for your assistance. I resolved the problem by completely deleting the affected folders and reloading copies that I had stored in a seperate drive. I then re-scanned all folders and everything works well. Smacks of "overkill" but at the end of the day, problem fixed. Thanks again! ![]() |

I am not advising you to do this, I was just trying to explain one way that files can get damaged. What you have I have had myself. I just reimported the file from the original disc to cure it. I don't know any other way to cure spotty graphics other than if you have a good copy on another drive like the person who started this thread.
