Angry KMAs from ZIP don't play...they use to

I have a large number of KMA (from zip) files in my Hoster's hard drive. However, now they are not playing. When I bring them I get a message
"Unexpected error processing the zip file: 0x00000200"
C:Documents......\local\temp\auout.zzz

The files I am trying to play are KMA not zip, but they were nade from zip file. Other KMA files play fine.

I tried reloading Hoster 3.317
Could this be a problem with 3.317... I recently upgraded.

HELP!!!!

PS. Those files that do not play in Hoster, play very well in Microstudio so it is not the file that is corrupted but the manner in which Hoster seems to be handling the files.

Just upgraded to 3.317 -- same problem

I just upgraded to 3.317 and am seeing the same problem. Unfortunately even after downgrading to 3.316 the affected files still don't play. Not sure what is going on. The affected files were definitely playing correctly before the upgrade.

Thumbs up I got rid of the problem.

After trying multiple system restores, hoster reinstalls, hoster downgrades which all failed to fix anything I found out how to correct the problem. I went to the temp directory under my user account (larryw) and deleted all files and folders. Once I did that the zip files work in Hoster correctly again. The path to the directory is
C:\Documents and Settings\larryw\Local Settings\Temp

Not sure what was going on but this fixed it for me!

Was this permanent fix or just for that session?

The fix appears permanent

I rebooted the system and started Hoster again and everything continues to work fine.

Actually it's not permanent...

I'm finding that the problem is coming back and the temporary fix is to clear everything out of the temp directory. I think support will need to figure out what is actually happening here to permanently correct it.

I agree with you that this annoying issue should be addressed by support.

Great work-around and diagnosis.

We'll get a 3.318 out tomorrow to fix this. ZIP has lots of quirks, and having to unzip to a temp file to be able to play is one of them.

Red face Hard drive usage

Thanks for the assistance. My hard drive seems to be fine, here are the numbers from the properties menu

Capacity 84.7
Used space 61.3
Free space 23.4

Thát's over 1/4 free, so perhaps this is not the problem

I tried to recreate the problem by running several HDZIP songs in quick succesion from the main menu and from the Edit song menu, no problems.

I also ran Microstudio, no problem.

I am sort-of-sorry the problem did not come back

Bandl & UPNext,

Unfortunately, your Temp directories could have been very full. This is a dumping ground for a lot of software, and it can get very wasteful. Now that you have both cleared out this directory, it is difficult to know for certain that a full C:\ drive was the culprit.

Bandl, are your units in Gigabytes or Megabytes? I assume Gigabytes, because these days hard drives are getting larger and larger. In any event, you would be amazed at how quickly 23 Gigabytes can be chewed up when you are working with audio and video files.

Admin and I are discussing how to address this problem. It may be an entry in the FAQ or Knowledge Base, describing a full drive and the cleaning of the Temp directory, as well as emptying the Recycle Bin. If the computer is truly out of free space, then there is little that the software can do to alleviate the situation.

Our diagnosis is indicating the TEMP folder is filling up drive C to the point there is not enough room for Hoster to unzip the ZIP files ready to play.

When you clear the TEMP folder, you are freeing up C drive space. When it fills up, you can't play again until you clear it.

In Hoster 4.0, we will insure we are deleting our TEMP entries after each play so we don't consume much C drive space.

See if your problem is your C drive filling up.

Not to confuse one post with another, but I wonder if this sort of thing may be happening with the batch "bin-to-zip"-ing problem I have with songverter. (mentioned in a songverter help post just now).

Talking You are probably correct

I believe that when I cleaned my temp files, there were a lot of them, so it is possible(likely) that the hard drive (its in Gigs) was getting too full.

I'll keep an eye on it from now on... until 4.0 comes out.

My c: drive was pretty full too

My c: drive has about 8gb of free space with an overall capacity of 80gb. I have since freed up another 12gb of space for a total of 20gb of free space. I will keep an I on the system to see if the problem reoccurs.

I just did a fresh install of my OS (XP and Vista). Formated both HDD's and just installed the OS and all patches that M$ had available. Installed latest drivers for my hardware.

Installed Hoster (latest) and got this error on a song I know was doing it before. I got the error in XP and Vista for the same song.

I don't think I ran out of space with two 500GB HDD's just containing the OS and Hoster.

I will try this trick of deleting the temp folder contents and report back.

Please note I noticed this happening at a gig last week when I was running on the old system (XP). Just upgraded to .17 as well.

It is possible that the KMA file got corrupted then and that is why it is repeating. I don't know.

This is great information! It is unclear which file (if indeed it is only one) in the Temp directory may be causing this. If you don't mind, please take a snapshot of your Temp directory (print screen, or whatever), to capture what is in there before you delete everything. If this works, then it is looking less and less like a "Full Disk" problem, and more and more like a "Corrupted File" problem. Thanks!

Please copy the "auout.zzz" file to another location, and then rename it to "auout.zip". Try opening the file with any unzip program you have (WinZip, Windows Explorer, WinRar, etc.). What files are displayed when you do this?

I renamed to .ZIP and looked inside the archive.

I have a XXXX.CDG file and a XXXXX.MP3 file.

Substitute the XXXX with the correct name.

I can play the MP3 file fine in WMP. I don't have a standalone app to play a MP3+G file so I don't know if the CDG part is fine. Size looks correct though.

After you renamed it to a zip did you try playing it in Hoster?
