Taking forever to import

Does it normally take 1 to 1.5 hours to import a 16 track Karaoke disc? Just seems like it's way slow. Any thoughts?

If its all of your disks then No that's not normal. It can happen with an occasional disk if it is of poor quality (made with cheap materials).

Typicly, depending upon a number of variables, most cdg's will import in 5-10 minutes.

Wow, 5-10 minutes would be awesome! Any ideas as to why mine are taking so long? I've got a pretty beefy machine with 1.5 GB of RAM. I did just disable the realtime virus scan. Don't know if that might affect it.

The only thing I can think of is to make sure your cdrom speed is not set at 1X.

Perhaps the more computer savy folks here would have some better ideas.

What does the Hoster default drive list say the drive brand, model, and firmware version is? This will tell you where (company website) to look to see if there is a firmware update.
Is it doing this on all disks or just a few? What shape are they in (scratched, dirty, worn)?

I set at 40x, have an ext USB Plextor 716U, and import 18 songs on MTU's supplied disks in 15 minutes.
Is this comparable to y'all?

I get the best results reading and writing at between 8X and 16X. Any faster or slower, I start getting graphic artifacts - garbage on the screen

8-10 minutes should be expected... except, as indicated by the folks here, when a CDG disc is very warped (Chartbusters are the worst), or very scratched, the the drive itself will do multiple retries to get a good import. I have heard Sound Choice discs taking up to 25 minutes PER TRACK!

As requested by a number, tell us:

1. Roughly how many discs you have seen take 1-1.5 hours,

2. What are the Brand names and Disc numbers, and

3. What condition are each in (look at them on edge to see warpage, look down on them to see scratches).

Then, we have an idea what you are dealing with.
