Print Song Book w/ 3.3 Hoster

The way the songbook is set up in 3.3 is different than the older versions. I am trying to print it with Microsoft Word. When I look at the file I see many song numbers that are out of line and or they don't show all of the song number. I maybe don't know enough about Word to make the right changes. I have tried moving the margins, indents, tab stops but have not had the success that I need to get the book to look right. I have change the colum width, the space between colums and still no luck. I looked in the manual and was unable to find the help on this subject. Any one else have this problem? Any one have a answer for correcting this issue?

I down loaded the 3.301 update and I still have the same issues. That was not the fix to the problems. Still looking for the answer to the printing problems.

Run the "prepare Songbook function" first to generate a "clean" *.rtf file.

Then open it with MS Word and look in the lower left corner of your MSWord screen....

You'll see several icons... move your pointer over them and click on the one marked "pagelayout view"

This should show you how the pages will actually print.

I don't have the latest version(s) but what I seen in Word is what prints, and I don't have to do anything additional.

I have run "prepare song book function" close to a dozen times to get a "clean rtf file" and still have the same issues. MS Word is set up for "Print Layout View". The song numbers don't line up in either column and some of the numbers in both columns are so far out of line you can't read all of the number for some of the songs. Some of the lines with the Title, Artist, Song number rap around to the next line and they are fine but not all of them rap around when they should and just extend to far or for what the page and columns can handle. In prior version's of Hoster my Pages were correct. It was when the new version and update's came out and they added the style "210-01" and what ever else to the layout of the book that now I have these issues.

Please email me your *rtf file and I'll take a look at it.

I can tell from the "raw .rtf" instructions if it is a problem with your printing side or what's actually output from hoster. If data is moving around from within the columns, it sounds like their could be several diffferent problems:

1. Hoster output not measuring line-lengths <--- unlikely, but possible.
2. Incorrect printer driver in use in your machine. (right printer, wrong driver)
3. Printer driver doesn't match printer model. (right driver, wrong printer)

Since it seems that the columns aren't showing up correctly in MSWord (not Wordpad) then it appears that it's more of a driver problem. However there is always a possibility that the instructions are not correct. Programming rich-text formatting can become very confusing at times... (I know this for a fact since I do this)

If there is anything wrong with the output code that Hoster is generating, I'll let you know.

In Word, try changing the Font (try a proportional font like Times New Roman, or a san-serif font like Arial), and the Point size to smaller. I may be wrong, but I think this specific problem is also addressed in the manual. If not, it is in another Forum Thread.

I tried a different font, the rtf file was created with other than Arial and I change it to Times New Roman. That helped some but still not enough. I tried just changing the point size from 10 to 9 and that helped some. Changed it to 8 from 9 and that helped more. I then changed the font to Times New Roman and it all fit. The problem with changing all of that is the page after printing it out is not very easy to read because it is printed in such a small pointed text. I know that if I printed the book like that I would have all kinds of complaints that the book was to hard to read because of the print size.
[U]In the manual under We suggest you select one of the following: 1. MS Word - If you bought MS Office Word, or an equivalnet word processor program , it allows two column formatting, auto page numbering, changing the font and point size if you wish, and adding headers at the top of the page.[/U]
That is all I could find about changing the text for song book printing. I would think if any thing one might want to make the print bigger so the book was easier to read for every one, especially when you are usually under a limited amount of light.

Okay, I'm looking at the file you sent and I have a couple of comments:

#1. Why does every artist name end with a semi-colon? This appears to be coded that way out of hoster.

#2. The problem that I see in the lines where the artist name is crashing into the bookid (and the bookid gets shoved and cutoff in the gutters) APPEARS TO BE --with all due respect-- also out of hoster.

I'll see what I can do with this and you let me know what you think.

They show up on mine also.

Not just the artist names, but also the titles. I'm guessing this is to distinguish between titles and artist names.

What you did with the bad file, you made it look like it was the way it was intended to be out of Hoster.
Thanks, I was sure that I hadn't done anything wrong when I was preparing the song books with Hoster.
