Question Can someone HELP?

If anyone can tell what is causing my problem I would be grateful.

First, I bought PLEXTOR PX-708A some time ago from MTU. My intention was to install this drive in a rackmount computer I wanted to build. Well I finally got around to building it. Installed hardware from computer I was using already (Dell Dimension 4600) for MTU softwares (Hoster, Microstudio, Keyrite, Vogone) rackmount case. Since I installed, Plextor drive works fine with Hoster but when I try to use it with Microstudio it doesn't work. Locks up computer when trying to read a disc. Also, when I try to read disc a disc with Windows Explorer it shows no files on disc. (Doesn't Lock Up though).

I am using....
Hoster 3.108
Microstudio 2.611
Windows XP 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp-sp2-gdr.050301-1519: Service Pack 2)

This just doesn't make any sense to me
Any help is grately appreciated

P.S.

Well, after installing latest Windows update I can now read a disc with Microstudio but, I still can't burn a copy. I get a START DAO RECORDING failed error still. Do I need to have some special CD-R for this DVD Recorder?

I can read CD's with this burner (PLEXTOR PX-708A ) but is this burner supposed to write to CD-R's as well as DVD-R's? If not, that may be my problem.

I guess everyone's busy Christmas Shopping. Gotta do what you gotta do!

Merry Christmas All

Thanks for the reply Bob, but I fixed the problem. I uninstalled some software I had on this computer. I had several programs that may have been the culprit. (I think CloneCD was the only one that may have been running at startup.) The mystery is that nothing new was installed and Microstudio ran fine before I installed this Plextor drive. But at least I am back in business now. I don't have any burn software on this computer now.

Thanks again,
Wally

Wally,
You will only have this problem with the DVD burners, for some odd reason. The older non DVD drives will not show this problem.

Bryan,
I also tried hooking up my USB Plextor Premium drive to this computer and it would not work either. It worked fine with same computer without DVD drive installed. I haven't had a chance to see if it will work now that I've got the 708A drive working.

Anyway, in reality, on this computer I only need Hoster, Microstudio, Ketrite & Vogone. I can put the other software that I might need on my other computer.
Thanks,
Wally

Wally,

Don't know if you had easy CD Creator 5 installed, but there is a program in that package called Take Two which has caused so many problems that Roxio took it out of their easy CD Creator 6.
