Editing the hard way

Apparently, even though there is an edit button, I am not allowed to use it. What's with that???

Clicked your Link

I clicked your link and got the "No Permission" message. In times past I have been able to rethink what I said and edit it for clarity. (Or even remove something that I wish I hadn't said) I think I have read your item 13 before. I'm not questioning the existence of a new policy. I'm just questioning the correctness of that policy.

Last thoughts about editing

It seems clear that the edit button was originally put there for purposes mentioned above. Even when I get the "no permission" message, it doesn't say "There is a new policy" or "Only Administration is allowed to edit"

It only mentions making sure one is only editing one's own message or being logged on This makes the message doubly frustrating because obviously if I follow those guidelines, I will still get the message. (In other words, someone needs to "edit" the message, because it is confusing)

I know myself that in the heat of frustration I have said things in posts that were too biting. Any time I have edited a post, it would be to tone it down, not escalate the issue. And again I have edited for clarity.

Love and Peace to all

Jahern,

I did exactly the same thing, edited my biting posts, even to the extent of deleting them, and got severly critized for it. Try to do the right thing, and this is the result. You figure it out.

George

Why no editing now exists

First, read the Forum policy by clicking here. Specifically read #3 and #7 items... why I have split these posts to a new thread.

Why have we changed? Too many people were flaming others for no reason other than just not thinking before they posted. We expect all participants to be respectful... in every post. If you flame someone and they respond, then you edit your post, it is not clear who heated up the Thread. That is why there is no more editing after posting.

Jahern, I do not mean to "single you out" here. You are just like many who get emotionally involved on a Topic, myself included at times! Too many disrepectful posts have been made in the past by all of us, and we have lost some very good members due to this. We need to all be respectful of others.

Here are some ways to be respectful in the Forums:

Use a Subject heading that describes the Thread you are starting. When someone visits the Forums looking for information, the Subject is the first thing they read, and often the only thing they see; i.e. they don't use the keyword search.

Do not start a new topic under an existing Thread... create your own new thread.

Do NOT post flaming or insulting remarks for any reason. Please note: When you create a new Thread or Post a reply, there is a Preview Reply button at the bottom right, beside the Submit Reply button. Click this to see what your post will look like BEFORE you post it.
I often edit as many as 10-15 times before finally submitting. That way, I know my message is as clear as I can make it. I have previewed and edited this post over 10 times.

I tried clicking the link, but I get the same response:

You do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.

2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Yes, I have read the Forum rules, and understand that editing is not allowed, but just wanted to let you know that the above link does not work. This one should work, but if it doesn't I won't be able to edit it...sorry.

Thanks Admin

Thank you for your response. Also, thank you for moving my thoughts to a more appropriate thread.

I guess I just got spoiled using the editing button and will take some time to wean (sp?) myself away from it.

PS. I guess it doesn't matter if I eventually learn the correct spelling of wean.
