Thumbs down V2.4 & MediaCloQ disks

Using v2.315, I was able to play tracks from a copy-protected (MediaCloQ) disk (specifically SoundChoice 8397).

Since upgrading to v2.4, when I go to play the disk, it will see all 15 tracks but clicking on "play" brings up a black play screen & then nothing. Doesn't matter which track I try.

Any ideas?

I guess this just backups my opinion of, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I see no reason to upgrade to the new version, and won't upgrade my firmware, because I like what I can do with what I have now...

What CDR drive are you using?

There are very few CDR drives that can read the MediaCloq protected discs. Can you tell us what you are using? We are not aware that 2.315 would read/play a MediaCloq disc except certain discontinued drives.

As to why 2.400 won't do the same, we totally rewrote the player code. We did not pay attention to MediaCloq at all as it normally will not play on a computer. I'm at a loss why 2.315 would play!

v2.4 & MediaCloQ CDs

I am using a Plextor 24/10/40A I purchased from MTU last year.

In fact I was able to import all the tracks (except the bogus track at the end) on that CD using this drive on ver 2.315. I was not able to duplicate the disk, however.

The new 2.4 version requires DirectX 8.1 or later. This also requires your video drives to support this. I would try upgrading both DirectX on your system and your video drivers to the latest drivers and then see what happens. You can get the latest DirectX drivers from: http://forum.mtu.com/showthread.php?threadid=772

Question Is it MediaCloq?

It sounds like you have a "multisession" protected disc, since you can't access track 15.

Look at the disc in question (SoundChoice 8397) at the hub. Around the center hole you should find the word MediaCloq printed in the disc. Please post here if you see this or not.

If you do, we will go buy a copy of this disc to test with.

mturacebannon,
You need to make sure that you also upgrade your Video drivers to make sure that they support at least DirectX 8.1 if not 9.0. This is what is causing this problem, I believe.

As to the prior posting from MTUSUPPORT, the inner hub of the CD does not say MediaCloQ. However, it does say it right under the disk # on the lower 1/3 of the printed label. Now that I look closer at the label, just above 'www.soundchoice.com'

As to the latter posting, I checked ATI's web site for my AIW Radeon 7500. They do not list DirectX 9.0 is the table of versions of DirectX that are compatible w/ their cards. From what I can tell, I have the latest drivers for this card...

I went back & attempted to import or play this CD on my Win 98 that has DirectX 8.0 w/ 2.315 MicroStudio. Attempting to play it, I get a black screen & I have to re-boot. Attempting to import, it sees all 15 tracks but has an error in reading an audio sector.

I could have sworn I was able to play it on a Win 2000 machine. However, I might have had a problem w/ another CD (an apparently copy-protected CDG which I was able to overcome) & confused it w/ this one.

FYI: looking at the label for this CDG (8397), near the bottom it states: "MediaCloq CDG's will not play in a computer".

Sorry for the "wild goose"...
