Old Tips...Do you remember?

Sometime ago, when KHP first came out, some of us started accumulating some tips for making the lyrics/sweep do special things on the screen when swept.

For example. I use the "*" between syllables when you want the the sweep to stop at each syllable. The asterisk is not seen.

I also remember that there was a way to "fool" the software into "not seeing" a word. That is the sweep would not affect that word and it would not stop there. However, I do not remember what the "trick" was.

Does anyone remember? or know some new tricks

Thanks

Tip on fast-moving lyrics

I am so glad that someone else also forgets to read the manual. I have to admit that I have not read it since I bought the program quite some time ago. Being a bit of a dunce when it comes to understanding technical stuff I tend not to give my self-esteem a possible slap in the face and try and sort the problem out myself. Sometimes this results in an original way of dealing with a problem, although usually it means that I have taken hours and hours to sort a problem that would have been dealt with in minutes if I had bothered to read the manual.

However, and forgive me if you have already worked this one out, recently I have been CDGing some songs with really fast-moving lyrics and having the problem that the refresh rate cannot keep up with the track. Because I don't see very well I tend to have the font set to a large size (Arial 24 or 22). This, of course, reduces the number of words on the line, and necessarily increases the number of pages. So many line and page commands to execute and not enough time to comply. I have found that by reducing the font size to 16 or 18 I can increase the word capacity per line to twice what it was and, hey presto, problem solved!! My other problem of not seeing to well is solved by standing a bit closer to the monitor.

Being a user of this program for some time has made me a bit cocky, I think, and this recent experience has taught me a lesson. I hope this helps more recent users of this fine program to get better results. KHPro is still the unrivalled leader and all of the commercial producers of CDG songs could take a few pointers to their advantage, if they weren't so cocky themselves.

Best wishes

Good to hear from you, Lauraine.

Another means of correcting sweep problems with fast moving lyrics is to not use the "Shadow" feature. Shadowing also requires sweeping, as well as the lyric itself.

That must be Faaaast!

Lauraine
I assume that you have used the "_" to join words so that they sweep at the same time. If even joining several words cannot catch up with the music, you most be making some veery fast CDGs! ;-) Gloria Estefan's Conga can be swept properly with the "_",

My problem sometimes is slowing the sweep (Spanish Boleros are slow and very melodious love songs). In that case I use the "*" to split the words. It works very well.

Happy CDGing!

I confess I didn't know about that one. Still picking up tips after all this time, isn't that great. Thank you so much.

I have begun to sing some Spanish songs as I love their fast-moving rhythms. In particular I have just discovered David Bisbal, but I cannot seem to locate any of his songs on CDG. Can you advise?

Best wishes

This is probably more for the new user that may be reading this thread.

Although the "EM" space takes a bit longer to type in when setting up the lyrics, the end result is much cleaner than the "_" method. When played back, the "em" spaces do not appear on the screen as do the "_". As far as the "_" are concerned one might as well save a keystroke and use just plain dashes, or any other character, for that matter to join words together for sweeping, but anything other than "EM" space will show up in the playback..

David Bisbal

Lauraine
For David Bisbal Karaoke (the type of karaoke that you play in your computer...however if you download the .kar files and change the extension to .mid, they are midi files) take a look at the link below. The lyrics of the songs are also included in this site. I am always looking for new Latin/Hispanic music (my specialty I guess!) Thanks for the tip on Bisbal.

Enjoy

Dear Bandl

Thank you so very much. I shall investigate this right away. The bonus of the lyrics is Wonderful! Now I shall be able to prepare a proper CDG instead of the practice version, for which I have had to use phonetic Spanish, taken from listening to Mr Bisbal.

Best wishes

Dear Bandl

Had a go but got nowhere. Sorry to admit cannot read Spanish. Clicked on everything likely but no success. Would be grateful for step-by-step guidance. Can't stay as I have to do something more urgent to do.

Be glad of any help you can offer.

Best wishes

Lauraine

When you click on the link I sent you (the second one) you should be in a site that has David Brisbal lyrics and music. The first screen has 4 choices
Fotos (pictures)
Letras (lyrics) and a couple others. If you click on "letras" it would take you to a screen that has the following information:
------------------------------------------------

Solo Letras (Only lyrics)
Aquí tienes las letras de las canciones de David Bisbal...¡Empieza a cantar! (Here you have the lyrics to David Brisbal songs....Start to sing!)

THESE ARE SOME OF THE SONGS
Corazón Latino
Ave María, Lloraré las penas, corazón latino...aquí encontrarás las letras de las canciones de Brisbal.
----------------------------------------------

Click on "Solo Letras" and scroll down to David Brisbal's name. There are about 10 or so titles. When you click on the title it will get you to the screen with the lyrics. Highlight the lyrics and copy them into your NOTEPAD.

To get the MIDI files you can go to www.musicrobot.com and type the name of the song (in spanish).

Yesterday I put together "Llorare las Penas" , my first (probably not the last) David Brisbal CDG. It turned out pretty good.

Let me know how it goes.

Dear Bandl

thank you so much, once again. I have printed off your instructions and shall follow them as advised.

Some of what you say is so obvious I don't know why I couldn't work it out myself

Best wishes

Dear Bandl

You asked me to let you know how I got on with the David Bisbal songs. I followed your instructions as I promised. For the moment I only gathered the lyrics for Ave Maria. Needless to say that the proper Spanish was a little different from my phonetic attempt

I am using the song as my subject for the testing I am doing for KPRO because I am still learning it, trying to get my stiff English lips around this beautiful but difficult language and it gives ample opportunity for making mistakes in the word placement!!

Using Vogone I have suppressed Mr Bisbal's vocal (a shame, but needs must) to gain access to the backing. This has been achieved quite successfully, as it happens, and I have copied and pasted the lyric obtained from the site you gave me.

As soon as I have mastered this song, and am satisfied with the finished CDG I shall search for others.

Thank you so much for your invaluable help, I appreciate it more than I can say. However, I am still looking for ready-made CDGs of Mr Bisbal's songs, so if you know of a source please be so kind as to let me know, as I do not expect all the songs to be as successful as Ave Maria is turning out to be. The next project is to be Por Cuanto Tiempo.

very best wishes
