![]() Greetings!
Happy Holidays to all of you avid support people --I know you are out there today. ![]() I have an new laptop that I want to use with music (KMA files) captured on a Rugged Laptop I have been using for over 7 years. Is there any way I can "move" (i.e., copy) existing music, songbook data, etc. to my new laptop without a big "fuss"? BTW- I just purchased the latest version of Hoster. As always, your help and advice greatly appreciated! Cheers! |

Re: Need to set up New Laptop PRONTO
What is your previous version ?
if your previouse version has the Backup/restore feature found under the help menu then save that backup on a portable drive and restore it onto the new laptop. This will copy all your settings and songs & singers databases. Then you just need to copy your kma and or kmh files folders to the new computer.

Re: Need to set up New Laptop PRONTO
Greetings and Happy New Year!
I am using Hoster version 3.321. Unless I am missing something, it does not appear to provide a Backup/Restore feature. (Bummer.) Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks. |

Re: Need to set up New Laptop PRONTO
First of all if your kma files are on your old computer you need to copy them to your new computer to follow the same path as they were on the old computer, probably C:\MTU\kma.
If they are on an external drive ensure that when you plug the external in it recognises it with the same volume letter that you used on the old computer. As there has been so many changes to the Databases and other new things added since 3.321 I don't know for sure what will be best but I'll suggest an idea that may work. On your old computer open you existing C/MTU folder and copy the Hoster folder to a removable media such as usb stick. Now open Hoster on your new computer, from the tools menu select "Hoster data Folder" now close Hoster but leave the folder open, go up one in the folder tree and you should be in the mtu.com folder and see a folder there named "Hoster", rename that folder to something like "Hosterbkup" this is just in case things don't work out and you have to return it to it's original state. Now paste your copy of Hoster from your old computer into the mtu.com folder you have open. Close the folder, now start Hoster and it should recognise the Hoster folder as an old version and automatically update it. If it doesn't then go back and delete the Hoster folder you pasted in an rename the original back to Hoster. If it didn't work then I should just open the Tools/Songs Database/Choose build database select either Add Folder or Add folder/subfolders brows to the C:\MTU folder or wherever you placed your music files and add the folders to the list, it will rebuild each folder into the database as it finds them.

Re: Need to set up New Laptop PRONTO
Just to add to my previous post, if your music files are on an external drive, once imported into the latest version may not be compatible anymore with 3.21 so if you still want to be able to use that then best to copy the music to another drive first before importing into 5.34.

Quote:
You can do but it won't copy your instabuttons if you have any, there might be a couple of other things that are in the registry that won't copy can't remember now. The best most complete way is as I stated in post #2 of this thread, use the backup feature.
