4.03 Check this out!

Have waited patiently for 4.03 as 4.02 was no use to me.Too many problems.
Just installed 4.03 on my laptop.Granted i only have 512MB ram on it with XP,however that said 4.02 ran at least.
SAD! On trying to start Hoster 4.03 i get "unknown 1004 would you like to see Help!".On pressing Yes it tells me there is not enough memory for this task and that i should quit one or more programs to increase memory.
On checking i have 270mb ram free with nothing running in background.
I give up.Now iīm back to 3.4 again.Iīm still 70 dollars out of pocket.
I donīt want advice here.No tips nothing.Iīm sick of it all.

John,
I feel your frustration. I see you don't want any advice but it's what we do here so please forgive me. My response may help sombody else.

1. Uninstall 4.03

2. Restart your computer

3. Install your latest version of 3.XX (if you bought an upgrade which I assume is the $70 you mentioned)

4. Restart your computer

5. Upgrade straight to 4.03 (it will restart your computer after install)

While beta testing Hoster 4.0X, I noticed that sometimes when I would upgrade from one version of Hoster 4 to the next version of Hoster 4, I would get the 1004 error. So I started unistalling the previous version of Hoster 4 before the install and never saw the error again.

This worked for me.

If you are to the point that you don't want to get up and running with 4.03, please contact MTU to get a refund.

MTU did address the 1004 issue many times during testing. This is the first post where the 1004 error has reared it's ugly head since, that I know of.

Welcome to the world of Personal Computers brought to you by Microsoft. PC's systems are a pain in the butt to work with but run great once all is right. If we didn't have PC's we would not have Hoster.

I hope the install procedure works for you.

John,
I thought about the 1004 error and I may have confused it with the 1706 error. (Oh the woes of being a beta tester. ).

If the reinstall did not work and you want to get 4.03 running on your machine, let me know and I can give you a fix.

Did you uprade from a previous version of Hoster? How many and which versions of Hoster have you had on your machine?

You don't have to respond if your just sick and tired of the whole mess. Just keep trying the demos till MTU gets Hoster 4 to a point where it does everything you want it to.

Any errors stating 1004 are due to not having Internet Explorer 7.0 installed. Install this to fix this error. Any errors dealing with Memory not being available is also caused by Internet Explorer 7.0. Install this to fix these errors. This was the original entry in the FAQs about 4.01 whne it released.
In other words this is a Microsoft caused error due to some update not being installed or not installing correctly. There is a free program you can run called Belarc Advisor that will tell you what you are missing and what needs to be re-installed to correct it.

ok

Not Internet Explorer.I uninstalled all references to Hoster then reinstalled 4.03.
It starts but there are some problems still. For example if one does a search while a video is playing the video stutters.
Still dissapointed though.Iīm trying to discern what iīve got more for 70 dollars that wasnīt on the 3.316,which is useful! Iīll see what 4.10 brings but that i predict will be a long way off!.

It was Internet Explorer because all the previous version 4.0X used and were linked to work using it. Version 4.03 went back to original display that eliminated the need for it. Since you deleted all references to Hoster (registry?) then you deleted a hold-over in the registry form those. I went by all the references I could find concerning that error message and how it was solved before during testing.

Video's take a lot of resources and especially video resources, so if your video card is limited on memory(should be 256MB or better) or your system does not have at least 512, better with 1 - 2GB then you are going to get things like this happening.
