Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

Great, glad to know back up running.

Do you know if windows or any other program did an auto update since yesterday when the problem started ?

Keep an eye out if something does update and causes the problem to re occur.

Hopefully just a little gremlin crept in

Unhappy Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

Ok
Friday night I tried those ideas WaltR suggested. This worked 1 time.

I did notice that something's were greyed our on the submenu when I right mouse button clicked on the singers song.

But the next song in the playlist, I click on the singers song in the playlist, the submenu comes up and nothing is greyed out, even though I changed the name and hit enter before trying to add to the singers database.

Then sometimes by restarting Hoster this would work 1 time and only 1 time no matter what singer or how I added a new singer's name.

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

It may be a problem in the registry, you could delete the Hoster registry keys then restart Hoster and it will rebuild all the keys but it will be like starting Hoster the first time you will have to go through all the settings again like your show display and you will lose all your instabuttons if you have your singers screen detached that will revert back to standard, either try that or wait and see if support comes up with an answer. The songs.mdb will be safe it won't affect your imported songs.

If you want to try it instructions are here: http://www.mtu.com/kb/kb/index.php?a...id=26&relid=10

The very start of the instructions is slightly different for windows 7 & 8.
Just type regedit.exe in the search box above the start button, when it returns a result click that.

Thumbs down Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

Roy
I did that after the your last suggestion. uninstalled Hoster, cleaned the registry, cleaned the computer, defragged and rebooted a couple times. Reinstalled and I was pissed because I had installed a lot of instabuttons that I hadn't thought about losing.

I think at this point that I'll just bite the bullet and add the songs manually and at the same time that I add a new song for a singer.

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

When you say "cleaned the registry", did you do it as described in the instructions or did you just use a registry cleaner ?

I could tell you how to do it without deleting the instabuttons but thought that might leave a gremlin behind

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

That is a no. I used a cleaner. How do I save my singers database and other singers list and playlist?

I am not so worried about the instabuttons as I created a special folder to pick those songs from.

Right now I am on another computer. My wife is at the computer with the problem. She is manually adding all the songs to the singers database. She would hang me high if I screw that up now.

I know it states in those instructions that you could lose your singers database but I'm sure that is wrong.
You may lose things like times singer sang that song and perhaps dates related to singer but not the actual singers list.

You will lose the instabuttons and settings like in the show display if you have a picture showing for the intermission view all the fade out and fade in controls and things like that will all have to be set again.

To be on the safe side you could backup the whole of the Hoster folder, If you open Hoster Tools menu, select "Hoster data folder" close Hoster but leave the datafolder open. Now you want to go back to the folder containing these files so in your address bar click on "mtu.com" you should then see a "Hoster" folder if you can save a copy of that somewhere safe that contains the singers.mdb songs.mdb and a whole lot of recoverable data, it should also have your playlist .HST files unless you changed that with the save as function. Most of the important files are stored in that Hoster folder and you can copy back individual items anytime you may have a problem.

Try this just in case my previous instructions were not clear.

1. Open the "search window". Now check up top and see if a singer is listed. It should have a singer by default, the first singer in your singers list. If there is a singer listed highlight the singer and hit the delete button on your computer for the purpose of this example. Now there should be no singer listed.

2. Search for a song and hit the add button (NOT the S+ button). This should place the song in your playlist.

3. The song should now be in the playlist but should have no singer listed. If you highlight the SONG at this point and then right click on it, should get a pop up window and the only thing grayed out should be "add song". If this is correct, click anywhere outside the pop up window to close it and go to the singers column to the left of the song while the song is STILL highlighted and double click on where the singer would be if you had selected a singer from the search window. After you double click you have a whited out area where a singer would have been. To right of this area you will see a arrow pointing down. If you click on that arrow it will give you a menu showing all the singers in your singers data base if you have any. Ok, now you have the choice of either highlighting a existing singer in your data base or typing in a new singer. For right now, type in TEST SINGER. Now hit ENTER. It should now show TEST SINGER in the singers column next to the song and the whole line should be highlighted. NOW if you RIGHT click on the song, you should get a pop up window and one of the items listed should be "add to TEST SINGER songs". If you click on this item it should now add the song to your singers data base and if you open your singers list you should find "TEST SINGER" added to your list and show the song you just added.

4. Now if you wanted to add another song to TEST SINGER's list you would double click on the singers column in the playlist and this time just start typing TEST and your TEST SINGER should fill in. Now hit enter and that line with the song should be highlighted. Right click on it and again you get the pop up menu and the item listed "add to TEST SINGER song. If you click on that you will now have added the second song to TEST SINGER in your singers list.

I have given you a step by step way of doing this because from your various posts it seems you may be skipping one or more of these steps. Give it one more try following each step exactly. If it doesn't work and you did each step then there is definitely a problem in your program somewhere. I had a friend of mine that had stated the same problem as yours and he was missing one of the steps. Now he is able to add the singers the way we have been talking about.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

I can do this easily. I Understand how to do this and this does work for me. BUT, before, I didn't add songs to the singer's database. Now I have a playlist full of singers from different places that I karaoke at and I want to add the songs to the database.

Now I just wanted to be able to just right mouse button click on each song next to the singer in the playlist and just add them to their database. I know I should have started this right from the beginning, but I didn't think I was ever going to need to have a large enough playlist. That's the problem.

So, that's where I am at, songs in the playlist that I can not directly add to the singer's database. So, I am re- looking them all up and adding them as we speak by using the "Search" window and the singer in the database.

I find the fastest way to look them up is by the "ID" number already associated in the playlist. I just have to watch for key changes.

Okay, if I am understanding you now. You have old playlist with singers names listed in them next to the song songs but they were never in your singers database. Assuming that these playlists still play in Hoster 509 then you should be able to add them to your singers database by right clicking on them even though those singers don't presently exist. You should be able to highlight the song and right click and add them. I don't know why this wouldn't work unless the songs won't play from the playlist.

Post Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

Hey Rick...I will try removing and installing 5.09. Thanks for the suggestion. Usually when I do this I get a licence problem and have to have the Hoster support people reset my account but anything to get 5.09 working so I can upgrade my "production" laptop to the new version. (I have two HP laptops and only update the production laptop when Hoster settles down on the first one.) I don't want problems during a show!!

If you want to try it instructions are here: http://www.mtu.com/kb/kb/index.php?a...id=26&relid=10

The very start of the instructions is slightly different for windows 7 & 8.
Just type regedit.exe in the search box above the start button, when it returns a result click that.
I printed out the process and I am familiar with removing and editing some registry keys. But I found I could not remove or edit and registry keys at all. May be windows 8 has other restriction?
If you have another idea let me know.
I tried giving myself permission and still no luck

Yes, I have read some things about the windows 8 registry problem, as I don't have it I can't really advise what to do.

When you re-install Hoster, in the screen just after where you accept the conditions, you get a screen with just 2 tick boxes, if you tick the bottom one which reads "Click this if you are reinstalling Hoster and wish to clear all known settings" that is supposed to be the equivalent of deleting those registry keys. So if you did tick that box when you upgraded and are still getting the problem then the problem must be elsewhere.

I have never checked myself that it does remove all those registry keys but remember reading about it when it was first introduced.
I can't seem to find any info on it now though.

Unhappy Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

Ok. I tried everything I could to modify my registry and all so far has failed. So I've given up with that process.

I uninstalled 5.09.02. I reinstalled the 5.09, than upgraded to 5.09.02.

I checked the box during the install to remove all settings.
I rebooted, and had to setup my Hoster setting as new.
I shut Hoster down and restarted and had to setup Hoster again.

I uninstalled Hoster, and rebooted.
I reinstalled Hoster and did not check the box to remove all setting.
I rebooted and started Hoster and had to setup Hoster again. CD disk, marquee, fonts, color and a few other.

I am finding that each time close Hoster I have to do this process each time I start Hoster.

Anybody got a clue why I am having this problem now?

I haven't got a clue

Looking back at your post, in post #29 things seemed to be alright.

What I would try is uninstall just so it registers it as uninstalled, then try using system restore back to around the time of that post which was June 3rd. or alternately back to a date before you installed 5.09 and start again from there.

Re: Hoster 5.09 Has been released May 28, 2013

There is something issue with the Permissions, this is the only reason it would not allow Hoster to write to the Registry. Now how to fix that issue, that's a good question. You may try logging in as a different/new user to see if that helps any.
