Spent an hour today with MS tech support, fixed my service pack 3 problem and my audio driver problem.
Am now running WMP 11, sp3 and 4.01. Everything works. I amnot sure what fixed it, but thank all of you for your help. ![]() Last edited by laddie; July 23rd, 2008 at 06:08 PM. Reason: spell |

What did MS Tech Support have you do? It may help others if you describe it here. Glad you got it going ok.

WMP11 uninstall
The issue with Windows media player 11 is that for almost all hardware which was released before WMP11 new audio drivers are needed. Depending on your hardware (laptop or desktop) the new driver may either install a new driver or just disable audio enhancements.
I suggest that before reloading windows you try to uninstall WMP11 if you had installed it just for Hoster. I run IE6 and WMP11 on my XP main laptop so that I can make sure that at least it works with IE6. On another XP machine I run IE6 and WMP9 and make sure it works there but it is not my main development machine and doesn't mean that it will run in all IE6/WMP9 computers because there are always OS differences due to Microsoft service pack system. Uninstalling WMP11 is an option if the audio sounds terrible after you install it and can't find your audio drivers. I did it myself on my IE6 and WMP9 system. For my IE6/WMP11 system my audio was choppy after I installed WMP11 so I downloaded the latest audio drivers and now the audio is great. |

This is ok if you have a card that is still supported and has updated drivers. I have a Soundblaster Live card that the last driver update was 2004 long before WMP11 came out.

MS Tech had me boot in the safe mode with networking. That worked, because all security features are disabled in the safe mode. The driver issue was a little easer.. When I did my first update to SP3, I updated all my drivers as well. Rolling back to SP2 caused XP lost track of the drivers. So every time I rebooted I would lose sound even though the dirvers were loaded. We had to uninstall the sound drivers, reboot. Reload the drivers again. Life is good now. MS tech support what caused the SP3 issue. |

Never thought I would see the day Microsoft would add so much security that their own updates wouldn't install.......that's funny.
