I noticed when I uninstalled Hoster by way of Control... It didn't remove everything. There still was the MTU directory with things in it and there was still Micro... with things in it. Should I try again and this time go in a delete anything extra manually?

1. Uninstall 4.02
2. Delete all folders named Hoster (not your KMA folder if it has Hoster in the name) 3. Reinstall 4.03 and that should get you going. Jim ![]()

Reinstalling as we speak. Been doing this since 2000. Full time fire chief here in Union City, TN. Did several clubs here and then in mid 2002 started at at place in Jackson, TN "Jimmy D's. Did three nights a week for a long time. With full time job had to cut back. Now just Wed night. My hobbies used to be fishing and golf but nobody ever wanted to pay to watch me.

Reinstalled. Set up 3 songs on 4.02 to play. Half way through first song, I stopped and exited 4.02. Brought up 3.40. it would play the first song. It could not find the other two. back to square one.
What is strange, this is my main laptop. My backup, will play 3.40 fine. I may get it out tomorrow and do a file comparison. Any other ideas? Kelly |

It's get's stranger. 3.40 is to be used if 4.02 messes up. Each time I put in songs to 4.02 and then exit, it only plays the song that I at least started. No other song will play.
However, If I don't bring up 4.02 and start with 3.40, it plays all the songs. ![]() Kelly |

![]() "Okay Mad Jim, First and foremost, I just want to say many thanks for the help last night. Rather than take up forum space, I thought I would send you this. Not sure which way to go right now, but I have 3.40 available on both my machines for now and they work. 4.01 hangs and is choppy. Likewise with 4.02. Did some testing between my main laptop and my backup. My backup which is an old Prostar from MTU only has the 4.01. I didn't upgrade to 4.02. The 4.01 plays but very jittery at time with the graphics. However, switching to 3.40 is fine. My main laptop a Dell 1501, is the one I was having trouble with last night. I unistalled 4.02 and reinstalled 4.01. It too is jittery at times an locks up occasionaly. I can use 3.40 though now with now problem. So, whatever the problem was with this computer is related to 4.02. I also found a BIG difference in what is showing in my computer. The old Prostar shows the following folders, etc. Under Local disc C: it shows: MTU with 2 folders 1. Hoster - which contain the marquee info and the songs, data base, singers data base etc. Then Program Files/ Microtech.../Hoster then it has the following folders: Data/0407/0411 Databases/ NOTHING Then English, German, Japanese, Manual, Playlists. Songbook, Songs. In Playists it shows def001-4-4-4.hst, def001-4-4.hst. def001-4.hst and def001.hst The new Dell Shows the main MTU with 2 folders etc. BUT the Hoster file down with Microtech... Only Shows Hoster and Manual. And all that is in Hoster is the following files: Hoster Hoster34 hosterv.ocx mtu.ocx mtufx.ocx. Now both of these are 4.01. But they are laid out different. WHY? Hope this helps. Kelly" Jim ![]()

Because what is below the Hoster folder in the Program Files area except the Manual folder is leftovers from previous version installs. You can delete them.

Just an update: Using both my Main Dell laptop and my old MTU Prostar laptop, I’ve spent about 2 hours today on 4.01 and 4.02. I loaded about an hours worth of karaoke files in each. Repeatedly both 4.01 and .02 would hang at the end of the first song and literally hang the computer. Sometimes I couldn’t get out without a cold boot.
I then in each version played about 5 seconds of the first song; stopped and restarted. Both versions then played all the way through without a hitch. But then they would hang again after 5 or 6 songs. At that I point I often would have songs that lyrics were out of sync with song. Also with 4.02 it won’t let me utilize 3.40. It basically tells me it can’t find my songs. 4.01 will let me use 3.40 I also took the advice I read in one of the posts and set my resolution to 1024x768 and my color quality to 16 bit. Can’t tell if that has had any impact but it obviously couldn’t hurt. I’ve reverted back to 4.01 for the time being just so I can use 3.40. I know a lot of people maybe upset right now or at least frustrated. These kinds of problems are new to me also. I started using Hoster for my shows back in late 2002. Did three nights a week for several years plus parties. Never had a back up computer until last year. (I know, call me stupid or lucky) Never needed one until last week. Luckily my backup only had 4.01 on it. I say all this to attest to how great MTU programs are. And the people like MadJim and Dale and many others who jump in here and help. Hey, 3.40 is solid. I just miss having to wait to use all my cool wav. Files! MTU will come out of this bump in road and we’ll all be happy again. Hey, if the “mountain” was smooth, we’d never get the chance to climb it! Kelly ![]() |

I reported this in the beta forums last week so I'm sure it'll be getting looked at, especially since a couple of help forum users have experienced it. Sam |

With 4.02 Sam, even if I opened up 3.40 FIRST, it couldn't find my songs. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 4.20 several times. It's always the same; 3.40 just plain wouldn't work. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Kelly are you using Vista or XP? Is the location of the KMA files the same in the Rebuild Database dialog box?

XP Dale and each laptop has it's own external drive. And yes, everything goes and is where it's supposed to be. All the updates and driver updates. And all settings are per the "MTU Handbook."
![]() I figured the first time I download 4.02 and 3.40 wouldn't work it was a fluke. Happens every time. Like I said, I'll be content till the mystery is solved. ![]() Thanks, Kelly |
