Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
yeah...me to. I'm not having this problem or any problems with hoster for that matter. But i sure would like to know how this comes out. I'll be watching to see what got this user's studders fixed, if indeed he did get it resolved.

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Well, I'll jump in the water...I still have an intermittant problem with a split second sound glitch when hitting enter searching for songs...My Laptop is running with a Celron 2.2 ghz processor and 4 gig of ram. All my files are on an external 2TB HD with 1.52 free space... I'm wondering about Norton, if it's kicking in at those times? It's the only program I have besides Hoster, Microstudio and Office 2007 on my C: drive...I use Avast on my desktop and don't have the problem...

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
I have an occasional audio stutter that results in out-of-sync lyrics. Disabling Avast 'seems' to reduce the frequency, but doesn't eliminate it completely. This is why I am interested in the other 2 cases.
For the issue with the enter key, I'm not sure what software would cause that. Perhaps you have a security app or virus recording your keystrokes? |

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Answer to Beavis, I am not privileged to see members email addresses that they register with their accounts, only information they leave in their profile, at your suggestion I sent a private message to Frode hoping that might get to him, Sherrisjubilee who started the thread does not have messaging enabled so out of luck there.
Regarding Johnpyle problem, why not just try disabling Norton for a test run and see if it improves it. The only other thing I can think of there is your 2tb drive, I have never had a drive that size connected to mine, I wonder if the size is relevant in this case, when you use your desktop do you use it with this drive ? I don't have Norton, I have Spyware Doctor and I I found it has a setting called file guard, I have to disable this part while using Hoster or it causes all sorts of problems, so there may just be some settings in Norton that are affecting it. So if you disable Norton temporary and find it stops the problem then try re-enabling it but see if it has some individual settings that you can change. To Randy McCharles, Can you think of anything else on your system that may be working in the background ? Also when this happens in your case, is it after a particular operation in Hoster, like adding a file from the search etc ?

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
For my case I posted this issue on this board well over a year ago. It is on am XP notebook purchased from MTU. I disable pretty much everything except Hoster, including wireless. The stutter happens infrequently, perhaps once every 10 hours with everything disabled. More often if other applications are running. I suspect it is the audio system as every now and then it 'forgets' that the audio out is connected and asks me to reconfirm the connection. It may even be due to power fluctuations.
Because I can live with this I am waiting for a Hoster update I actually want before I try updating the OS and system drivers. (They are currently as installed by MTU.) I am happy with the Hoster version that came installed and haven't seen new features in recent releases that I need. (For a while there they were mostly fixes for Win 7, which I don't need.) |

Are you just using the internal sound card with a jack from the Audio out (Headphone socket) or an external sound card connected some other way ?

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Just using an audio out jack. I am using the MTU notebook as configured by MTU. No changes. The audio drivers seem a bit hocky as they assume you can use the input and output for either input or output. (Possibly with other hardware you can.) When I reported this last year MTU suggested updating the audio drivers, but they were current.

regarding Skipping, I see you say you are using notebook as configured, does this mean you do not have an external hard drive attached for your music files ? Have probably said this to you before but have you recently defraged and checked the internal har drive ?

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Thanks for spending time on this, Roy.
I have tried several different cables. I also occasionally use these cables elsewhere without problems. I don't use an external drive with my notebook. I can fit my music files with 25% free disk. I can try defragging, though I don't think this is the issue as I don't recycle the disk space much. (I just occasionally add more music files and rebuild the songs database. I do use an external drive with my desktop system, which is where I import new songs and create songbooks, and I don't have the stutter problem on that system (also XP). |

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
That is a great suggestion, Roy. I believe this is disabled by default, but the OS will pop up and suggest you enabled it, so many people do. This should not be enabled on Hoster systems as this service can tie up the CPU causing audio glitches.

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Roy I couldn't find a tick box but did find how to set the HD to "better performance" mode which should help... My Norton was on with all the whistles and bells running, and I shut them all off... So hopefully that does the trick, I'll find out tonight. Otherwise Hoster is running fine for me.

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Randy, even if you don't recycle files on that drive, Xp does. If you have never defragmented that drive I am betting it is badly fragmented. The first thing I do after installing and updating a Microsoft OS is to defrag it. You would be very surprised how messy Microsoft is with their installs. Where the minimum percentage of free space is 25% the system speed degrades even after 50% down to that 25%. I always run my computers with as close to 50% free space as I can.
As far as updating goes in the last year there have been many improvements to Internet Explorer and Windows Media player that would help improve your operation. Even if you haven't upgraded your Hoster to current versions, the upgrades from Microsoft do help make the system run better and will not hurt the operation of Hoster. We do not recommend doing any of the hardware updates through Microsoft though. Those are better done through the manufacturer's source. I would check especially for your sound card since you checked a year ago. Jon, the box you are looking for is at the bottom of the General Tab (first page that opens) and says next to it "Allow Indexing Service to Index this disk for fast file search." Make sure this box doesn't have an X in it for all drives attached to the computer.

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Well I found the box guys, it's already checked. Well the bad news is it seems to be getting worse now (more frequent)... I have a 320 GB Flex drive now and am coping my KMH and KMA files to it, and it will be well below 50% of disc space. I'll give that a try tonight and see how that goes...

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Opp's, missed that Roy, I've been burning the candle at both ends... I'll try that, hope it works. The sound glitch is still happening on the 320 GB drive also...

Re: Hoster Skipping/studdering
Well nothing seems to work for this this sound glitch I have when searching. I'm really frustrated now. I'm begining to wonder about my laptop. Everything else is working fine though on it. My desktop doesn't have the glitch when hitting enter while searching, ever...Hum...Both computers are using Realtek High Definition Audio, have 4gig of ram, and put out great sound going through my Behringer...Roy I need you to dig deep for me...
