It opens fine....the problem was that it didn't like the drive I had been using for some time now...anyway, I tried a suggestion to open in 3.4 and detect the drive then open 4.08. This worked and the drive is saved as a show drive.

So, one problem down

Thanks to all for your help

In 4.08 it appears that the Select CD/DVD can show a drive as bad but the drive will work in Hoster, this is what's happening to me.

Same here, It shows my cd/dvd drive was bad but still ripped cdg's in hoster 4.08. Still works perfectly fine. Just Ignored the Message and clicked Cancel button instead of save button. Btw my dvd drive was SATA.

All I was trying to say about the error is it is a nusance but harmful.
Glad you got your drive back Bob. I only had that happen to me one time a while back (early version 4 beta) and 3.4 fixed mine too.

You could be on to something there since SATA DVD drives are a fairly new animal and most people still have the IDE types.

I get the 1706 error on my test machine #2 which has been out of service for a while. I'm going to get it up and running and we'll start the attack.

hoster 4.08 error 1706 plus won't read CD

So, tonight, I did try to install Hoster upgrade v4.08 and place hostersetup.exe in my c drive like what Marklwood suggested and still at the very end of the installation, error 1706 showed up ans so I rebooted my computer(main) and when i run Hoster, cd/dvd drive setup pops up, so i have to configure my drive but both drives shows Bad and i just exit and do import hardrive which i be able to work. Then, i install the setup on my show computer but now it won't let me, saying that i did to many setup already so i have to submit a ticket to MTU
for permission to install. Everytime, there's a new upgrade, there's always an issue and i 'm already tired of fooling around with this software. I am suffering for a junk beta program. Why don't they just make it simple like the older version. I know people likes to have more features but if they are going to do trial and error, and make user suffer is not a good idea. I think it's for me to try another program. For, the ticket that i submitted to MTU will take weeks and weeks before they resolve it...... I feel sorry for the other user.......

I don't know why you feel sorry for the other users. Is it because of a Microsoft Installer problem (1706 error)? Or the few who are getting the CD/DVD drive bad but still works minor problem?
I don't think you will find any of the competition being just a simple program to operate either. Everyone wants all these features and they are all trying to provide them.
Consider the number of computer manufacturers, the number of different models and versions they each make plus any options you can add or change, the variations of the XP and Vista, and all the other software that you can load onto one and you have just come up with several thousand different computers out there in the world. Now you want them to create a progam that will work on every computer without any problems or bugs what so ever. I would check those other software producers Forums and see if they have any problems before you buy. I hope you can find one, because I haven't seen one without some people having some problems.
Now to your problems:
1. The 1706 error is a Microsoft Installer error that even shows up randomly with some of their own software installs. They don't know how to fix it, so I am not sure why you expect MTU to find the answer. The error does not stop the installation and everything installs correctly. And this is not causing the CD/DVD drive problem.
2. CD/DVD drives being marked as bad is an MTU problem but as has been posted here and you have discovered it will still import, so this is minor and will be fixed as soon as they can figure out why this happens.
3. MTU's delay time on Tickets has never taken "weeks and weeks to resolve a ticket. If you need this computer fast to prevent losing a show then use the Emergency Help link in the Support section to submit your ticket to have your registration reset.
How many computers do you have Hoster installed on? What version are you upgrading from?

I have Hoster working on my (1)Main computer for which I use it to import cd and files on my hardrive and (2)Show computer (only for party not business) just for hoster player purposes. I use hoster, microstudio and songverter and i had this program for a few years now. And everytime, i can manage to solve the problem, and ever since upgrade version 4.xx and up came out, i notice too many problem and i realized that i'm beta testing this software which is not my intention in the 1st place. I been in the computing technology since the dos era and this is the first time i encounter a program that has so many bugs and i bought this software to play not to fix. My main computer is a P4/3.00ghz with 80,000 cdg and 4830 vcd and it's running great when i first use Hoster v3.xx. (no complain at all). And because of my hoster stablity before, I recommended this to a few friends who attended my party (around 10). Everything is fine until the dreaded version 4.xx upgrade. I become a troubleshooter for my friends problem ever since and i'm tired of it now. Now my observation is : How come it's fine to install V4.03 but not v4.08 on my main comp and v4.06 fine but not v4.08..And now, my problem is i cannot reinstall v4.08 in my show computer stating that i already installed
several times. Put it this way..I'm a happy camper before (recommending this software to my friends) and I' here now very upset..........

Then what you have run into is the limit in number of times you can install the program. Even if your computers are eligible MTu sets a limit as to how many times you can install it. Since you have already put a ticket in they will reset the counter so you can install again.
Unfortunately we Beta Testers don't have every computer so some bugs will get through. We try to test each program as thoroughly as we can but inevitably something will work fine for all of us and somebody out there will have a problem with it regardless of the function.
And you do deal with a very buggy program everey time you turn on your computer. It is called your operating system by Microsoft. If it wasn't they would not be still putting out updates on a weekly basis.
I too have been working with computers since the dinosaur age and unfortunately once your friends find out they will always call on you to help them. As far as Hoster goes I would tell them to report their problems in here and that way we can all help them or figure out that there is a problem that needs to be passed on to MTU for them to fix. They might even find an answer to their problem without having to ask you or having to post anything by searching the forum.
