Hoster program shuts down every 5 minutes

I really need some help on why my hoster program keeps shutting down. I get an error message that says window must close now and shuts the program down. I have sent the error to them and the reply is there is not a fix for the problem. Is anyone else complaining of the same issue. I am running XP sp-2 2g memory. Prior to the 4.0 install I never had a problem. I downloaded 4.06 with no luck. I have gone back to 4.03 and the system continues to shut me down. I ran one song tonight before it crashed. I bring it up again and I might get a few songs in and down it goes.

I have no problems with my other computer running Vista.

Any suggestions

Ya, I get that shutdown still about once every three shows, even with 2 gB ram and a video card that has always played videos well. Not sure why. Happened tonight again for the first time since going from 1 to 2 gB ram in laptop?

hoster error

I am having the same problem with my laptop which never happened until last week. I am using a Dell Latitude with 256mb ram, mobility radeon display adapter 1.8g processor. I also now have another problem that just began. I have several insta buttons and the first boot and program opening they work well. After that they quit working unless I close Hoster and start it again then same thing. I am running xp sp2. Any ideas??

I formatted my drive and reinstalled xp and same problem, Crashed about every 5-10 minutes

Thanks Alan

Hey Alan,
XP is up to SP3, I've had it ever since I started running my shows with Hoster 4.0 (now running 4.06) and have never had a shutdown problem. You could try adding SP3.

This could be the biggest issue. Are you running any background programs? The video is borrowing memory from your 256mb, along Windows and Hoster running, I'm surprised that you are not having more problems. I bet your hard drive never stops. Have you added more songs? The added hard drive space will take room away from your swap file that windows uses in place of ram. The only way I could see Hoster running at all with this little amount of system memory is if your song list was only a couple of hundred songs. First thing to do would be to make sure you have 50% of your C:\ drive free for windows swap file. Next would be to add more system ram.

Seriously, I am really surprised that this is running Hoster at all. I would definitely hold on to that computer, Dell must have done something very right.

that happened to a friend of mine last night, i was helping her out with another problem ( not hoster related ) when i got it fixed, she opened hoster and it took a while for hoster to opened and when it did she got the same error "hoster has encountered a problem and has to shut down"
she asked me if i could do something , so when i closed hoster down, just like mark said there was another program running in the background, shut the program down , re started hoster and everything went fine ( thank god we were at the place an hour before the show starts )

Hawkman and wb6bna,
Go to this MTU web page and follow the instructions on it:
http://www.mtu.com/upgrades/hoster/xp-changes.htm

This should clear up your shutdowns. Obviously from your statements you have not updated your Windows in a long time. If it doesn't stop them it will definately reduce them and then we can narrow down your exact problem.

Hmm, once in a while I get that on my wife's shuttle, but when i try again it opens fine the second time. The error message is linked to a wmp dll file. Not sure what that pertains to. Her shuttle is a very powerful machine with nothing in background at start up and 256 mB video ram dedicated. Plays virtual DJ video's, slide shows, other visual effects during video playing while using two decks at a time.

My laptop is just as versatile as far as videos go. That's the one that gets the random shutdown during a show.

Hoster shutdown

Hey there I still need help. Last week I was having a problem with Hoster 4.06causing an error and shutting down. I corrected the problem I thought. Last night (Friday) I used my laptop for work and it once again shut down. I have sort of narrowed it down to when I play audio files. If I just play karaoke songs it doesn't seem to do it. Any suggestions. Thanks Alan

If you are down to occasional shutdowns then you have definately narrowed it down. There has been some problems with a few MP3 audio song files and MTU has been trying to figure out why. If that is what you are using try converting some of them to wma or wav, to see if that keeps it from shutting down.

hoster shutdown

Thanks. I always play wav files of people that sing at karaoke and some from other sources. Last evening I got a shut down almost every 15 seconds. I switched hard drives to my backup and had the same problem until I only used kma files, then the problem went away. I experimented and noticed when I added wav files to my playlist the program shut down. Really bad when you are getting paid and your equipment keeps crashing. Hope to find the trouble. In mean time I am going to go back to 3.321 as this is the only other version I have.

I removed my wireless card and it still shuts down. I may be getting close though. All seems to be working now except for the first time I open the program all works well, then once I play a kma file I am unable to use my Instabuttons. Still can't figure this one out. Tried to remember what changed prior to the shut downs and could only think of installing wireless card.

Thanks Again Alan

Shutdowns

I am having the same problems with shut downs. I have gone back through and updated everything per your instruction. I am following MTU guidelines and have downloaded all updates. System crashes in just a few songs. I'm using xp service pack 3 2gb ram. I'll check my Mp3 also.

For what it is worth pick up a flash drive with say 4GB or more. Windows Vista uses 1gb just to run windows, XP a little less.

Plug in the USB card, format it, do not put anything on it, leave it in when using the PC, it adds memory. You don't have anything to lose by trying it if it don't help you simply use the flash drive for other things like transferring media.

TigerDirect has a sale on 4s, 8s, 16s and 32gb flash drives.
The 32gb and 64gb flash drives are handy for backing up your music.

Swany, a flash drive does not add memory. It adds drive space but is actually slower than a standard hard drive.
