Hey Laddie,
Beta 7 was released as planned. MTU has gone through Microsoft's Programer's Database (the one they pay anually for) and found every available piece of information on running video in Vista and still can not get it to behave right. To accomodate this, once again they are having to go back to old stable MTU code.

Videos will run in Vista but with some restrictions (thanks for connecting Bill!)

1. There will be nothing on the preview screen while a video is playing.

2. On the TV the lyrics will show with no Singer Name Display and no Marquee.

It is their only option and will be added Monday.

Just trying to help.

Laddie,
The beta testers found some small bugs in 4.04 beta 8 that are being addressed in beta 9, which will be out tonight. If it passes, it will be released tomorrow I'm sure.

As a beta tester I am concerned that we don't let an inferior version of Hoster get released, ever. This does nothing but cause bigger problems for eveyone.

Thank you for being patient.

Jim

It seems that way! MTU can't release 4.04 until it is solid. We are very close, it won't be long Laddie. I promise you, we are all working hard at it.

Laddie,
Let me give you an example of why 4.04's release is taking longer than expected.

Since I posted this MTU has put the old player in 4.04 then they took it back out because one of the Vista testers had success that they did not expect. Microsoft can't tell them how to make Vista behave, they have to stummble upon these successes. Shame on Microsoft. If you can, imagine having to take your car engine apart then put it back together, every day. This is not a normal program devlopment procedure. MTU's guys have been a very busy bunch.

I know this doesn't get you Hoster 4.04 any faster but at least you are in the loop.

Jim

Hey Jim, I know MTU programmers are working their tails off trying to get everything to work the same in both XP & Vista. However, in my opinion, as long as the Videos work (they show on the Singers Screen & the MUX works), that is what is most important. I doubt that anyone does a Show with Videos Only I have videos also, but they are only a small % of my entire database, and they are sung from only "once in a while".
So, I don't think the above would be a real problem for anyone .... just an inconvenience. So, why not just concentrate on making them "work", including MUX & importing into our database so we can easily find them & run a Show more smoothly I believe we can all wait for the "extra goodies"

P.S. I have been waiting to be able to "import" my videos for over a year now. I NEED to RE-DO my books, as I am tired of telling my customers to look in the "Video List" when they can't find what they want in the regular list. I really don't want to use another program to re-do my Songbooks. I would rather just stick with Hoster.

Right now just video.

the same in both XP & Vista. However, in my opinion, as long as the Videos work (they show on the Singers Screen & the MUX works), that is what is most important.

You are so correct! The video may be working for some but not for others. It has to work for all.

"The above" will not be the case as of a few days ago. All users (vista & XP) will see the video in the preview and will see the marquee and the Singe Name Display.

So, why not just concentrate on making them "work", including MUX & importing into our database so we can easily find them & run a Show more smoothly I believe we can all wait for the "extra goodies"

MTU wants this as bad as you do Sky. It would be done now if Vista had never been released. I think the MUX issue will addressed in 4.05 and importing video will be addressed in 4.10. I can only share the information I have Sky. I know it's not what you want to hear.

I hear you Sky, I believe it will be worth the wait.

Jim,
So, we still won't be able to use the MUX in Videos?

So, if we play multiplex videos, will we need to use 3.4 in order for our Singers to sing with music only?

Can we run 2 copies of Hoster - 3.4 & 4.04 - at the same time
or will we have to shut down & re-open Hoster everytime we want to play a Video without the vocals?

Once 4.04 is out, any idea how long for 4.1 (if that's the one that will allow importing Videos). Using ONLY Hoster for my songbook now, my Songbooks now contain 6 lists that Singers have to look through every time - my original (last updated) Book, plus list of videos, plus 6 additional lists of New Songs added every couple months. My books now look very "unprofessional", so I don't know how much longer I can wait to re-do them. It's Florida & "Snowbird" season is coming, which means lots more singers..... not just the 'understanding locals'.

We will have to use 3.40 for now.

They run at the same time. Just minimize 4.03.

Once 3.04 is out, any idea how long for 4.1 (if that's the one that will allow importing Videos). I think you mean 4.04. 4.05 will be out very soon after 4.04 then work on 4.10 will begin.

billyo - I entertained in Pasco County for over 10 years (mostly New Port Richey area). In 2004, my husband & I moved to the Ft.Myers area. Skybird is like my "pen name". It's not what I go by on stage.
Where are you?

Last night I did my first show with 4.04.. Had lots of problems, it ran like 4.2, slow and quirky. For me ,4.03 was a big improvement of 4.02. And for me, 4.04 is a step back. I had minor problems with 4.03. The problems I had last night included, slow response to almost everything.
  • music drop outs during search.
  • Lyric stop and or lag while loading a singers CD.
  • Using the singers DB causes the cpu to go to 100% and lyrics hang
  • opening task manager causes music drop out
  • doing anything while the singer is singing is risky, it seems almost anything causes dropouts.. like opening the marque.
I didn't have any of these problems with 4.03, at least not to this extent.
My machines meets the MTU requirements and I have made all the adjustments according to the Hoster manual. Additionally I have gone thru the forum and applied the advice given to others.
The problems got so bad that if finally switched to 3.43.

I still have 4.03. Will it load back over 4.04?

The reason I started this thread was because occasionally the music, the lyrics and everything else stops for about 10 seconds and then pick back up where it left off. It happened again last night. My OS is XP.

Hey Laddie,
I'm sorry to hear you problems at your show.

3.40 is the highest version of Hoster that has been released. (A typo I'm sure. Just wanna keep it straight so folks won't get confused. )

If you unistall 4.04 then install 4.03, you should be back where you were. If not, you can use sytem restore.

I hope this helps.

Jim
