That's right, MTU had to start using password protection, I'm still old school, sorry.

Numbered? You know how Microsoft is, that would be too easy.

In my version as I scroll down the page a pop up window tells me which one is at the top of the page. From there I use the record buttons in the bottom left of the list to zero in on it.

I just learned this trying to get you going. I edit my databse through Hoster so I'm not real good with access.

There has got to be a BETTER way to find 8 files!!!!!!!!!
Access only comes as part of MicrosoftOfficePro. It is a 773mg download just to try it out for 60 days!!!!!!!!!! It is really worth it?

What Jim is telling isn't exactly correct.
The Track Number 2899 is the record number in the database, not the order your files appear in the folders. Windows Explorer organizes your list of files in alphabetical order.
Since you don't have Access and don't want the expense (don't blame you) there is an alternative for this. There is a free office version available called OpenOffice and it is located at http://www.openoffice.org that is supposed to handle database files as well as other office types of files. I have not used this so can't say how good it is.
I would suggest that before you try to open the database that you make a copy of it and try it from the copy rather than risking your working file.
You should be able to sort the table by record numbers when you get it open, so you can find the items you are looking for (or actually where they should be in the list but are missing) the other columns will tell you what diskid and track number. Then you can re-import those if need be.
Admin did say they are going to look into this further this week and see if they can find the cause for all these happening.
And Jim the filenames are DiskID-track # as in ASKD4-1 and not BookID.

I just read up on "OpenOffice.org". I saw the complete list of "file extensions". I don't believe it can read/open "Access" files. It appears to have the functions as does MicrosoftWorks. It reads all other office files (Excel, Word...), but not Access.

So far....... a lot of work just to look at 8 files out of 12,000+

Someone, please give me a good reason to go through the trouble of getting downloading 773mg just to TryOut Access for free.

After discussing "Merge" vs. using Access to find specific files that got the Error 3315 messing, it got me thinking....

If Merge adds all the DupID files by "renumbering" them, and then gives me a list of only "Duplicate Book ID & #" - then I should also find in that (shorter) list, the files that represent Field "Songs Mfg Name" cannot be zero-length

Jim & Dale - does this make sense to you?

How about you do this. Go through and write down all of the error file numbers. Post you Songs database file here along with the list of numbers. I will look at your database and tell you which diskid-track you need to re-import. Since I am blessed () to have Microsoft Office I can do this fairly easy. Just need to do it soon as I am leaving out on vacation on Wednesday morning.

Unless you already have this program & know for sure - from what I read, it looks like it will "Export to Access", but not "Import from Access". I would need to know absolutely for sure, before I download & install a new program

I think Open office will do what you want Sky, they boast about being able to read Microsoft Office documents. It's a big program. If you have the hard drive space, it is free. I used a Open Office until my wife brought us Office from school. It work for me.

I have always kept all of my KMA files in one folder so I have never merged a database. There are other folks who have done this that know more about it than me.

Open Office is a program like any other program. After you install it and use it for what you want, uninstall it if you don't like it. In your case it would be a good thing to have because Microsoft Office is so expensive. Don't be afraid of it, it's a good program.

So, you have always imported using the same computer? I did most of my importing using my desktop and laptop just for the Show.

I'm not afraid of the program, I just don't want to waste my time installing a bunch of programs I have no other use for, just to locate 8 files listed in Access format. I don't believe that program will help me sort through the 1800 duplicate IDs either.

i'm not sure if merge song database function has been change from the old version to 4.3, caused i'm still using the old , but anyway from my old version, i have some songs that wont come up everytime i do a searched, i know i have the songs in one of my 3 hhd connected to my laptop, and i have them listed on my songbook, but when i merge the song database, the missing songs came up, so merging is not a bad idea, the only thing was i think it will change the song id's ( i rarely use song id's anyway )

Not true Sky. I'll import on either machine. I check every song on the disc against my database before I import to be sure that I don't enter a "double". I keep track of the DiscID's (not the BookID -Thanks again Dale) and transfer the KMA files I entered into one machine to the other using a jump drive. I rebuild the database and I have the same songs on both machines with no doubles. I also put a copy of the new KMA files in the KMA folder on my back-up drives as well. This keeps both of my machines (all three counting test machine #2) and my back-up external drives up to date.

If I'm in a hurry a double will get through every now and then. I just make a note when I find one and remove it from all machines and back-up drives the next time the show machine is on the bench.

It's a little work but I never have to "Merge".

Good Find Laddie!

I downloaded, tested then attached a copy of the program to this post so every Hoster user can now see their songs.mdb without messing with a large program. There is a nag screen you see everytime you open and close the program but it's free and it works!

Just download the zip file - put it in a folder - unzip the contents to that folder and run the program. Be sure to create a shortcut to the program and put it on your desktop.
