Thanx for the info. I'll have to take a look at that.

Ok....many great suggestions for this karaoke host. Now, no matter what wireless you choose to purchase, before you purchase it. Make sure it's not on this list! The ones on this list must be updated by the manufacture in order to keep using them, or not used at all. Sure as yur readin' this, some clown will have the deal of a lifetime on a dual set of wireless you can't use in 6 months. So choose your mic wisely. Personally it's again a bunch of crapola..but you do as you think best. Just be careful of your choice.

mine are not on the list, i think those mics that are listed are the ones most journalists uses, not the same mics musicians use.

Actually it's is14fun that wants to purchase some new wireless mics, but I didn't have the info on the link, so it's very much appreciated. Thankfully, my mics are not on the list.

Shure, Sennheiser, & VocoPro are definately used by musicians / KJs.
I suspect there are many 700 MHz mics not listed.
I don't think this is an issue in Canada...yet.

Thanks Musicman 51. I am going to have to buy all new mics before June. Darn FCC just can't leave things alone!
How about posting this in the Singers and Hosts Wisdom in a new thread so all can see this and not just Hoster users. It would be helpful to everyone.

Yeah. Buying a used mic is like buying a used bathing suit.

Update for VocoPro UHF-5800

VocoPro has changed their UHF-5800's to 600MHz series microphones now so the new units are ok to use.
Also, for those who already own these units, they are offering a trade-in for your 700MHz series microphones and modules to get the 600MHz series ones from them. I don't know how much they are discounting them, but at least they are trying to rectify the situation. You do need to have proof of purchase.

Some of the other manufacturers such as Audio Technica was offering 10-20% trade in for their wireless systems. suggestion is to check the websites of all manufacturers,(Shure, AT, Etal

Re: Need to purchase wireless hand held mic system

Although I am new to Hoster, I've been using a set of VocoPro VHF3300 Wireless Rechargeable Mikes (~$149.95) for about 2 1/2 years and have been very pleased with them. So pleased that I added another set about a year ago. I have never had an interference problem with them. I don't use any corded Mikes.

They (two Mikes per set) use 9 volt rechargeable batteries that I buy for about $5 each at Harbor Freight and they hold up very well. I charge them well at home between shows and they hold up all night (4-5 hour show) without any problems.

These batteries hold up just as well as the Radio Shack $15 (each) batteries.

I play in small (Redneck) venues and go through 65-90 songs a night and the batteries hold up all night ... and I have never had one dropped.

Re: Need to purchase wireless hand held mic system

If you are looking for something that is cheap and actually has a decent sound musiciansfriend.com has a dual channel mic on sale for 39.99. I use it for the people who have had too much to drink.. it was a great purchase.

Re: Need to purchase wireless hand held mic system

This is the first I have heard of the 700MHz problem. What happens if you still use your mics? Is Uncle going to track you down and hang you? I'm getting the feeling that VocolPro is a fairly good system considering price and performance.
Thanks for all the replys. They really help.

Re: Need to purchase wireless hand held mic system

i have always used audio technica 200 freeway series mics for wireless with the exception of my mic which is a shure.

those of you talking about using rechargeable batts. have you noticed the batt no fitting in the mic housing all that well? if not, what brand of rechargeable are you using?

Re: Need to purchase wireless hand held mic system

I also have a couple of Audio Technica 200 Freeway mics, and you're right. Some of the batteries go in harder than others. I can still get them in there, so I keep working with them. I usually use AKG WMS40 becausethey use 2 "AA" batteries and last a long time as compared to the 9 volt the Audio Technicas use. The only time I use the Audio Technica mics are when I have more than 2 singers.

Re: Need to purchase wireless hand held mic system

As I stated in my original post, I use Harbor Freight 9 volt rechargeable batteries. They do fit in the housing very tight, but I suspect this is so they will make good contact all the time since they don't have a snap-on connector. Instead, they are pressed tightly against the contacts. The Mikes get a lot of use during a show and I'm well pleased with the Mikes (VocoPro VHF-3300) and the battery performances.

SInce your local emergency services (fire, ambulance and police) will be the ones getting the new frequencies, I would imagine they will be the first to contact you.
If you have these then contact VocoPro and see if they will replace them. I had one set that was a year old that they replaced out-right and the other set was 4 years old and I had to buy a new one.
If you bought within less than a year you should be ok as they switched shortly after my purchase to the 600MHz range.
