I'm going to go with the raid set up. I see two major advantages to this: 1. The raid system will keep a mirrored copy my C:\ drive on the second drive. Any changes I make to the C:\ drive will be made to the second drive as well. I won't have to connect and disconnect the drives to add new data. 2. If my C:\ drive fails, the raid system will start using the second drive automaticaly. I won't have to open my computer and switch drives, I should be able to just keep running my show, replaceing the bad drive when I got home. I don't have the time to research the bootable USB drive so I don't know how much trouble it would be but if it works, it would be better than the backup system I have now which turned out to be none. Thanks for posting this info, it may help somebody else. Jim

I did some research on the 1200a and found a bunch of good info on the Adaptech forum. Looks like my bases are covered. I'll keep you updated.
Thanks again! Jim ![]()

The card installed without a hitch. I'm creating an array right now. It's copying drive #1 to drive #2 as I tpye (20% done). I'll keep you updated.

The computer rebooted and I got a blue screen when Window XP tried to start. I did some research on this and could not get past the blue screen. I connected my master (C:\) drive to the motherboard and tired to install every driver I could find for the Adaptec 1200a card with no success, it may too old for my motherboard or XP. It didn't show up in XP as an Adptec 1200a, it shows up as an HPT370 UDMA/ATA100 RAID CONTROLER.
![]() I had the second drive working as a bootable drive but when I tried to run both drives at the same time, one as the master and one as the slave, window changed something and I lost it. ![]() ![]() ![]() I feel like I had to go around my elbow to get to my a** hole but at least I have a bootable second drive in my machine. I've learned that I can get a second bootable drive with Ghost (Ghost always crashes the first time I open it) or Aconis but I feel raid is what I need. I'm going to look into a newer Raid card. Thanks again Beavis for sending me the Adaptec 1200a card. It didn't work correctly for me but I'm one step closer to having a reliable backup that will work without taking my computer apart to switch drives. Jim ![]()

While looking for another Raid card I ran accross an Adpatec 1200a at Newegg. It looks like this card does not work with Windows XP. See the specifications:
