Hoster 4.6a PlayList Error Dilemma

Can this be fixed?

Ive been working on my song files deleting and re-importing some and I discovered a problem in the way Hoster just errors out and close the program when a file BookID is not in the database.

Why cant a message come up to say (file number not in database do you want me to skip this song.) or (you want me to search for it)

So you don't have to suffer the humiliation of restarting Hoster in the middle of a show.

The only thing you have to work with is the BookID and the song title in the PlayList, so if you have 5 versions or more of the same song the BookID does you no good because it cant reference that file version so the only thing you have left is the song title. (Not a Good Recovery Plan in the middle of a show)

Now you have another dilemma which one of these 5 songs is the one that was in the PlayList?

If the DiskID was on the PlayList then it would be no problem, just pick DiskID out of the five titles versions available and youre done. (Good recovery Plan)

Another thing that is wrong and needs to be fixed is if a song errors out in the PlayList and your running in Auto you press ok on the error message and the program will move on to the next song in the PlayList the next song does starts ok, but if you press the skip button to advance to the next song the program will highlight the song below the error song and not advance the highlight to the playing song the way it's suppose to.

You cant even delete the error song from the PlayList you have to shut down Hoster and restart Hoster and then you can delete the problem song from youre PlayList (Not A Good Recovery Plan) and, its a big time nuisance to operate this way if you run into a problem file.

Joe how are you deleting the files? If you do it through the Edit Songs then it also deletes the BookID so you can't even add it to the playlist.

Yes that's what i'm doing deleting in song edit, which other way can it be done.

I needed to change the disc ID#'s and brand to a large number of files.

My big problem with all of this is the way Hoster is handling this type of problem, there seems to be no recovery plan, and you know you're going to have a bad file now and then so I think this definitely needs to be worked out.

I can't say I have ever had a bad song file cause Hoster to crash. It may look bad or sound bad but never had it crash.

That may be because you have a little more consistency in your source files

Yes that's what i'm doing deleting in song edit.

Why can't it have like so many other programs in the market a " File not found " and move on to the next song on the list or display a explorer list for choosing a directory for sellecting the missing song file?

This Will Kill The Consistency Of You're Show and That's the primary reason you bought the program in the first place To Put On A Consistently Good Show and not to be ruined by a Minor thing like a missing song file.

The problem you are seeing, is because you upgraded and did not follow our directions to the letter. I'm sorry, and there is no amount of programming we could do to overcome this.

Hoster NORMALLY runs out of a DATABASE (Microsoft Access to be exact). That allows you to locate your files.

What you are running into is MICROSOFT ACCESS is not finding the files you once had in DIFFERENT FOLDERS. Thus, because they once existed, they are in the Songs Database. Then, you... or Hoster... moved the files to other folders and now ACCESS can't locate them. When you use Edit Songs, Access if finding the original, but... when you save, ACCESS is storing the edited version in a DIFFERENT folder, and there's not a dang blasted thing we can do to overcome this other than you follow our directions.

I say "Hoster" could do this because Microsoft (NOT MTU) changed what they NOW allow, different from what they USED TO allow. They WILL NOT allow software developers (MTU) to continue giving you total flexibility to store your files wherever you want to.

There are now folders that Windows (VISTA and XP) will NOT allow you to use. For example, you cannot store WORKING or USER files in the C:\Program Files\... path any longer. Any files found within this path are automatically... without notifying you... move to "virtual folders" that we couldn't even find for months of searching.

Then, we tried Microsoft's RECOMMENDED C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music and that was ALSO NOT ALLOWED. Thus, we finally said "Screw Microsoft" and create our own C:\MTU folder that Microsoft will NOT move your files out of and will save your Edit Songs modified files back into.

Joe, we gave explicit instructions to move the files. You had to click a check box that said you had move them before installing Hoster 4. We can't do any more than this.

I would do the following:

1. Insure ALL your KMA files are moved to C:\MTU\KMA Songs (or subfolders you create under THIS PATH) folder(s).

2. Run the Tools menu "Songs Database" REBUILD command and identify all the folders your KMA files are now found in. DELETE all folders with C:\Program Files\... and C:\Documents and Settings\... that may be in the "Source Folder List".

Then, there will be no bad paths and as you do the massive editing you seem to be doing with Edit Songs, your saved, edited files will store back where Microsoft Access Database (Songs Database) expects to find them.

I don't know why your Hoster would shut down with this. When I encounter this the status simply changes from "ready" to "error" and Hoster moves on to the next song without missing a beat.

Yes You're Right, If The file errors out for a HDzip file.

And there is a problem with this to if you read my previous post.

If it encouters a missing or bad BooKID Number it just shuts down.

That's what I experienced using Hoster and there is no recovery for this type of error, it just shuts down every time.

This happened to me in the middle of a show.
