Windows "Modified"

Okay, color went screwy on our flat screen that we use with our computer (not the singer's monitor) - Instead of waiting until I got home and could explore the issue, I went into Windows Display and switched off "Windows Modified" - now the blue screen is gone on the the singer's monitor and when a song isn't playing, shows the windows wallpaper (green hill, blue sky, etc.) and when you don't have a positive search, you can hear the 'tone' that didn't happen before.

Is this something I have to go into the registery business to fix or is there some quick fix? I don't have time to set it up and go through all the changes I had made when we first set up (I'm NOT a computer genius by any means) and wondered if someone could come to my rescue with a quick fix.

I haven't upgraded, not using 4.0 or anything newer, on the same one I started with originally. Will upgrade this week (I think I'm over my "Lost files" phobia from original installation!).

Karen

I am assuming you are referring to the Theme "Windows Modified" that you switched off. The theme was what set your background color. If you do not want to go back to using the theme, then you can click over to the next tab (Desktop) and set whatever background color you want. This will be the background for both monitors since you are in extended mode for Hoster.
You don't mention whether you are using XP or Vista. If it is XP go to the Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices. Turn off the sounds (No Sounds) again. By changing the theme this was reset to defaults. I am not sure if Vista is the same for these.
Is that quick enough?

Sounds like your default settings got restored somehow. Go into your sounds & turn off all sound schemes.
As far as the displays, this is just your desktop settings.

Thanks Hoster Dudes....Appreciate it. Still have to figure out what happened to my fairly new 17-inch flat screen computer monitor now...it is kind of a greenish tone. We didn't change anything at all on it so when I have some time I'll go through and see what happened.

You have two choices. Video card, which I doubt since the singer's display was ok. And the monitor itself. If you bought it somewhere locally or from a major store online then take it back to them.
These things are not going to take the rough handling that the older CRT monitors do. What has happened is probably inside the monitor some connections on the circuit board have been broken or cracked. One I had suddenly went to a purplish tone and was very hard to read. This told me the green color had gone out somehow.
Part of the problem may be how you transport your monitor. I use a plastic tub about 5" deep and large enough to fit the monitor in it face down with a towel under the screen. This protects it pretty well and we have been using the same monitor for a few years without any problems.

It is transported very carefully, inside a large plastic box with a lid - it is always transported upright, very carefully wrapped in heavy foam. The container has never been dropped or bumped or anything; we've been so very careful with this thing that I'd be hard pressed to say that it received such a jolt that something broke. I've been looking for a reason to switch to laptop, though, and this might be a it. Much less to carry and set up than the system we have now, though the large monitor is such a eye saver without heavy lighting.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I got that greenish tone once when I didn't plug the monitor all the way into the port and it was a little loose, or sometimes one pin could be bent or broken. You may want to take a look at that?

That was the first thing I asked Joe when he got that green tone. I will check tonight when we set up and make sure.

Thanks Bryant I hadn't thought of that one. I have had a couple of those monitors go bad though and it can be nothing more than heat. At that time we troubleshot them down to a cracked track on the board. It was not moving damage though but manufacturer's quality control. Sometimes those problems won't show up for months then all of a sudden it happens.
