Question about Merging:

Rather than re-import all the songs in the list that say they are duplicate IDs (I have over 2,000) - is it possible to Add all the same folders (used in rebuilding) and Merge them. Then when it finds the Dups, shouldn't they just be re-numbered? Or is this a stupid question?

Not a stupid question. Yes you can do it that way. Problem most people have with that is it renumbers them and it messes up there books so they have to re-print.

I asked because it specifically says in the Manual, to "re-import" duplicate IDs. And "Merge" spcificially states that it is for Adding songs that were "imported" using a different machine (which I've done in the past).

OK - Since I really don't care about Book IDs (and plan to leave them out of my new books), can I just Merge the same kma files that I used to re-build?
It can re-number to it's heart's content. I really don't want to go through a list of 1,817 song - one by one to see which ones need to be re-imported.

I hate when singers ask for a song by Book ID only. After a couple drinks, they give me the 1st number they see (might not even be the right song) & then when they come up to sing, invariably it is not what they want. If I had the "Name" of the song to begin with, then I can ask them before I pull it up.

It can be used for both. They recommend to re-import to keep the bookids straight.
That is why we use slips that specifically ask for ID and Title. Some can't line up the rows of text straight either when they are drunk.....

GREAT THANKS. I'll just Merge then.
I still use the same slips I did for 10 years before computers, and still want to know what Brand (version) they are asking for - not a computer-generated #.

Helpful for Songs in "sub-folders"

Dale, that free .mdb viewer helped solve this problem also, because one of the columns is the "File Path". I had put my Songs in numerous folders within the Songs folder. So, when I compared the "BuildSongDBLog" that said I had 1,800+ Duplicate songs, I discovered that these songs appeared in 2 different folders. So, rather than have to check each song 1 by 1, I found that there are whole disks that I apparently imported a second time (having forgotten that I already did that stack) and put them in a different sub-folder. And since I did all my importing with my desktop and then transferred to the laptop, I had to use "Merge".

Problem solved The mdb shows the folder that Hoster is using, so now I can go into the "other" folder & delete all the duplicates. This should helps others who also keep their songs in sub-folders.
