4.0 Hoster Don't work after 4.2 install

I removed Hoster 4.2 after having a lot of problems

(Win XP pro Comp. 3 months old )

Reinstalled 4.1 didn't work properly and wound not play all my files including 3.4 or import from my cd.

But Microstudio was able to play all files that was not working in 4.1 or 3.4.

Was told to remove 4.1 completely to remove gremlins from 4.2.

Used control panal to remove Hoster and then removed Hoster folder in program files and in MTU folder.

I even ran my registry cleaner (Winaso) to make sure every thing was gone for a clean install.

Reinstalled Hoster 4.0 it started to rebuild my songs folder files before program started.

When Hoster 4.0 started I was shocked to see all my Instabuttons singers button and all the 4.2 layout like before but now the program is not usable any more it takes to long to do anything when I checked to make sure of the version it was 4.0.

Now what do I do?

I'm spending way to mush time on this with no solution in sight.

And the problems are getting worse

I need to work a show thursday night 08-14-08 and all weekend.

MY COMPETITION WOULD LOVE TO SEE ME FAIL SO THEY CAN MOVE IN ON MY GIG> PLEASE DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO ME.

Last week I went through the same hell after installing the very mush BATA TESTED Ver. 4.2

HOW DO I GET HOSTER 4.1 TO WORK AGAIN LIKE BEFORE I INSTALLED 4.2.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

If you have 3.321 or a previous version prior to upgrading to 4.xx & it did work.......... you might want to consider going back to it for now. From what I have read by Admin, 4.03 should be out very soon and should solve all the problems users have reported with all the 4.xx versions. I believe it will be worth the wait.

Joe,

Please read this whole post before you do anything, Thanks.

Be sure that your KMA files are not in any of the folders that you delete.

1. unistall whatever version of Hoster you are using

2. delete the C:\Program Files\Micro Technologies Unlimited\Hoster folder

3. delete the C:\MTU\Hoster folder.

4. reatart your computer and install 4.01 (If you upgraded from a previous version of hoster, you may have to install it then upgrade to 4.01. Try to install 4.01 with just your upgrade code first, I think it will work.)

This will give you a clean reastart of Hoster, you will have to set 4.01 up the way you like it from scratch. I'm not sure about the instabuttons. If you started using the singer database, be sure to save the "singers.mdb" in the C:\MTU \Hoster folder. Put it in another folder or on a jump drive. Put it back into the C:\MTU\Hoster folder after your 4.01 install and your singer database will show up.

HINT:
If you are unsure of what files to keep, save the folders in steps 2. and 3. on a jump drive berfore you delete them. Be sure the jump drive is unplugged fronm the computer while you install and setup 4.01.

I believe you can get 4.01 up and running for your show.

If this does not work for you, do as suggested by Skybird and go back to a version previous to Hoster 4.

I hope this gets you going.

Thank You Madjim for your input

I did exactly what you discribed in your helpful responce I also restarted my computer and rescaned with my registry cleaner again before continuing with the 4.0 istall,

Why can't I get 4.2 out of my computers hard drive.

Is it because of some protection scheme or some other folder/files that MTU is not telling us about that's at work here in my system and wont let older programs to install as they did before?

Is this the problem I will have to live with until they get it right for 4.3 or 4.XX and possibly lose my gig.

why can't an MTU programer help me resolve this problem with there program.

I Just want to get Hoster 4.1 installed and running like before in my computer. Please

It's not my fault that this is happening to me.

It all started when I installed Hoster 4.2 last week of this I am certain.

You're welcome.

Did 4.0 install for you?

Why can't I get 4.2 out of my computers hard drive.

It should uninstall:

1. Go to Control Panel

2. Go to "Add or Remove Program"

3. Select Hoster

4. Click on "Remove"

Is it because of some protection scheme or some other folder/files that MTU is not telling us about that's at work here in my system and wont let older programs to install as they did before?

No

If it's not fixed. We are trying to get you going Joe, please work with us. Nobody wants you to loose a gig but that is ultimatly up to your actions. We can get you going if you let us but we can't keep your gig for you. I recommend you get a backup system.

why can't an MTU programer help me resolve this problem with there program.

They are busy building Hoster 4.

We want you running too Joe. Please calm down, take your time and follow our directions. Also we need calm, accurate reports from you. You posted this big report and the only thing that is clear is that you are upset.

Why is it you are the only one having this "can't uninstall 4.02" problem?

I see you followed my directions? Did they work?

Joe is it ALL of your songs that won't play now or is it still just the Zip files?
As Jim said instead of ranting and raving if you will calmly answer the questions maybe we can get to the bottom of this. You are the only one having this particular problem. Others are having zip problems but their's error out in the conversion showing corrupted files.
Have you tried a restore to take you back to a point before all of this started? This or a total reloading of the computer may be the only options but not yet.

Yes Joe, but not until everything else has been tried. I know what a pain it is but sometimes it becomes the only option left. Have you tried to Restore to before your upgrade to 4.0 or 4.01 which ever was the first one you did?

Thank you for yuor responce.

Yes I did and didn't work no matter what I do I can't get 4.2 out of my system to do a clean install of 4.0 and then upgrade to 4.1.

After removing Hoster 4.0 4.1 4.2 using control panal and then removing MTU and Hoster folders and cleaning up the registry.

It still when installing 4.0 comes up with 4.2 with all the features.

This can only happen if MTU put a hidden folder with files in my system and is not cooperating with me to solve my problem to inable me to do a clean install of 4.1 like I had before with no problem using my program and song files.

Not A peep from MTU in any way to help me resolve this issue I am suffering with this problem since last thursday.

My computer has 4 gig mem 2.6 duo core 200 gig 7200 rpm drv and only 3 months old Xp pro os.

What else would i be missing to run Hoster properly like it use to.

Before I installed Hoster 4.2 and made a mess?

Hey Joe,
Thank you for a detailed report. There is some confusion going on but Dale, you and me will figure it out. We want to know what's going on as much as you do. You're the only one with this problem so we can't get information on it from anybody else but you.

In your report you said:

It still when installing 4.0 comes up with 4.2 with all the features.

4.0 and 4.02 have the same features.

After installing 4.0, click on the "Help" menu then click on "About Hoster" and tell us what the version number is.

The other thing you can do is keep restoring to an earlier restore point until you have a version of Hoster that works. You will loose your Hoster 4 settings (singer database and the such) so save the C:\MTU folder on a jump drive before you start restorring.

Jim

Just a stab in the dark ... is it possible that your 'hoster402setup' installation file is incorrectly labelled 'hoster401setup'. In other words, is it possible that although you think you are installing 4.01, for some reason you're actually installing 4.02?

No such thing as a dumb question

Sorry about the confusion,
I posted these problems before with a detail explanation and I’m explaining it in different ways to see if someone can come up with an answer.

When I wrote (installing 4.0 comes up with 4.2 features) I’m talking about the instabutton and the singer’s database those features as far as I recall was not in Hoster 4.0.

Again I did previously post what I did after installation of Hoster 4.0 and I did what you suggested and yes the version was Hoster 4.0.

And yes I did restore to a earlier point and that did not help as far as my song files just kept getting errors on a lot of my song files when I checked those files with microstudio they all play and worked fine no problems but not in Hoster 4.1 or 3.4.

Again I posted all this detail on previous post since last Thursday 8-07-08.

Please I do appreciate everybody’s input in helping me with this problem.

But no one from MTU has tried to help me resolve this problem that started when I installed Hoster 4.2 everything before then was working fine.

Hi BEECEE

Thanks for the input

No

All my Hoster install files are in one folder and are the same ones that I originally used to install Hoster 4.0 4.1 and 4.2 I also verified that version after install in the help menu.

Thanks Joe....

Joe, maybe I can look at this from a different perspective. First of all 4.0 was when they added all the new fancy features. 4.01 & 4.02 were created to solve the problems/errors people were getting from 4.0, not to add new features.

When you re-install, are you rebuilding your database?
Also, when you say the songs won't play, but will play with MicroStudio, how are you accessing these songs? If you are pulling up a previously saved playlist & playing the songs from there, there is a good chance they won't play for a variety of reasons, including the "path" may have changed. (I believe I use "saved playlists" more than others, so that's why I am asking.) If you ADD the song again (after you rebuild) to the Playlist, then it should work.

If not, then you do have more serious problems, which are probably computer related & not Hoster related. If so, I'm sure Dale or Jim will take the extra time to walk you though it.

Hoster 4.0

Hey Joe, I installed Hoster 4.0 now nothing works it locks up won't play the music, lost my earlier version of Hoster this sucks. i am working on windows xp, everything was working fine until I upgrade to Hoster 4.0 . I have tried everything that I can think of to repair it with no luck. Wish I had my previous version back, bought something that I can't get to work.
Sorry about your problems.
