Volume Control in Windows XP

I hope this helps some of you. I use a laptop to run my shows and have been using the volume slide on the laptop to adjust the sound slightly or fade out long songs. I have wanted to use the volume control slider on the computer but you get a beep anytime you adjust it and there is no way to turn off the beep in sounds. I have found a way to turn it off and used it last Friday night for my show and it was great, for me anyway. I thought these instructions might help someone else so here they are.

1. Right click on MY Computer and select Properties.
2. Click the Hardware Tab at the top and then click on Device Manager.
3. Click on the View pop down menu and select Show Hidden Devices.
4. Click the + beside Non-Plug and Play Drivers.
5. Right Click on Beep and select Disable.
6. Answer yes that you want to disable it and restart your computer.

There are several ways to get to Device Manager. You can also get there through Computer Management. At any rate, I hope this helps someone else.

Mine always defaults to max on both controls. I thought I read somewhere where somebody figured out how to make it persistent, say 3/4 vol. on both, and make it return next time you open up hoster. I tried what i thought he suggested, and I can't seem to get it to be persistent.

Any more ideas anyone?

Bryant,

Check and see what volumn you have the internal equalizer set on! It is probably on max! Crank it down a couple of notches, reboot, and check to see if Hoster control sliders have adjusted accordingly!

I think that is how I got the sliders to where they were more suitable to my sensitive hearing! Ha!
