Unhappy import from hard drive

I can't seem to import kma files from the external hard drive. I have no problem importing from cd+g discs but not files from thedrive. I select :1. import from HD, 2. click CDG, 3select file...then nothing happens, no radio dial page or anything. Just reverts back to th original page??? Can some one help me with this problem?

you dont need to import kma files

just ad them to your database.

Unless they were converted from another type of file, then they would need to be imported, just like songs off of a cdg would have to.

Here is one thing I've done to speed things up when adding kma files when I'm setting up for a show. I've already converted discs at home and made a sub folder copied to a memory stick. Copy the folder to your kma files so you can find them easy. (I just added 109 files in one folder took 10 seconds) Go Hoster, Tools Tab, merge kma files, find folder, open the folder, click merge songs. Viola. Simple workaround, I do it because my rack mount PC's are rarely anywhere but at a gig and I need to do it fast.

I did, I rebuilt the song data base after adding the folders that contained the files I want. I have 2000 duplicate book IDs could this have anything to do with it?

Ok, I use the C drive in the laptop for about 150 folders that each contain a complete CD+G karaoke track files. This how I used to import when I first started with no experience. Now I know better and have created a single folder and all of my files go in it for a pretty large collection (20,000) songs. I have the newest single folder in 500 gig external drive so I draw from both the computers C drive and the external F drive. Is this the wrong approach? Also, I have created a playlist that has all the key changes and names of keys and whatever notes that I need to keep in tact since I always use the play list for my band. We use tracks and I play keyboard around the tracks. If I merge kma files, will it mean I have to recreate a completely new 250 song custom playlist all over again since the book IDs wont match the path anymore?

This is true you will have to recreate your playlist. However if you don't then those with duplicate IDs will not work until you do the merge and change the duplicates.

You say you are importing CD+G files. Is it possible these are actually mp3+g files? (CD+G is one file typicaly about 50mb, mp3+g is 2 files typicaly about 5mb). If so then you need to use the mp3+g tab when importing, NOT the CDG.

This won't cure your problem but may get you a little closer.

Or if you used Microstudio to get them onto the hard drive then they would be BIN files. There is a button for that format too.

Do I change one file at a time or can I take all C drive files and do it all in one "merge .kma" operation?

Do you want to move them all from C to the external drive folder?
If so copy them over to the new location. Verify they copied and then delete them on the C drive.
Then run the merge database in Hoster changing/ deleting the C drive folder from the list leaving only the external drive listed. then run it. That is all there is to it.
If you are leaving the files that are on C drive where they are, then just run the merge database with both folders.

Running the Merge database does not move any files. What it goes is change the BookID assigned to those that have been listed as being duplicate.

The "Merge KMA Files" dialog has a list box where you add all the FOLDERs holding your KMA files. All files in the folders you add here will merge at one time. If you don't want to merge all, put them in a folder and don't add it to the Merge list box.

As to "redoing" your Playlist, I'm 99% sure the Merge command ADDS the newly identified songs in the folders to your existing Songs Database. Thus, songs before the merge that were already in the Songs Database should still be valid.

My guess is you had not added the "unmerged" KMAs to your Playlist yet. They are the ones you'd need to add in with the key changes.
