Holster 3.321 would not install in Vista

Hello!!! I just recently got an upgrade version to my Holster. From 3.315 to 3.321. Before installing this 3.321 on my Laptop with Vista Home Premium, I moved my playlist to C:\MTU\Holster\Playlist folder and leave my Kma song files on my external drive. Then I started the setup and went smoothly untill it reached the installation window (after clicking install button window). It runs for awhile about 1/3 blue progress bar, then there this error window appear and says: Feature Tranfer Error, Feature: Holster, Component: App Executables, File - , Error: Acess Denied and after clicking OK button, installation window disappeared and installation stop. Tried several times without success and stopping at the same point. With the same error message. Please help... I tried to look for an answer in the discussion forum but did find any related problem. I guess Holster cannot be upgraded under Vista as the warning says on the the "instruction to ugrade holster 3.321 under window vista. Note: Had UAC disabled during the setup process

Another question, Does my computer need to be connected to internet to do the upgrade from Holster 3.315 to 3.321 on XP Home edition?

I found this on another forum for a program people were having the same problem.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

I made a mental note of it but it seemed unlikely that I'd be having the exact same problem. Later, I ran Filemon while the installation program hit its error. While reviewing the log, I noticed:

---------------
9302 8:00:07 PM set4D.tmp:3468 QUERY INFORMATION C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop NOT FOUND Attributes: Error
---------------

I went to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and sure enough, there was no folder called Desktop. So, with no confidence whatsoever that it would solve my problem, I created one.

I ran the installation again and VOILA! It worked! I can't believe the whole installation program shuts down just because it can't find that silly folder.
The short answer (hopefully) is to check C:\Documents and Settings\All Users and see if you have a folder called Desktop and create if not. If this isn't it there may be other possible solutions if you Yahoo the message (leave out "Hoster").

As to the other question: 3.317 and beyond requires being online to upgrade or install.

Hope this helps

Sam, that doesn't make sense. If the common Desktop isn't under All Users in Vista, then where the heck would they hide it? It isn't even considered to be a System Folder so it isn't hidden. I love Microsoft....it is so much fun!!

You may want to get the L out of Hoster, when you type it in.

This was a fix that worked for a number of people on another forum.

On another forum there was a similiar fix but in that case the desktop folder existed but permissions were inadequate to add an icon. Even having administrator rights was not a garentee they had permissions. This makes some sense since the error message specificly refers to "access denied" which is what you get when you try to get into a folder your not supposed to.
Evrything I came accross was XP so maybe Vista is something totally different.

Just trying to make an educated guess (without the education )
Sam

If you typed in any folders for Hoster, and misspelled it.
That may be part of problem.

After thinking about this a bit.

I'm thinking since the executable file is having the access denied problem, perhaps it's related to the c:/program files.../Hoster folder. Maybe a permissions issue with this folder.

Somewhere on here, I read instructions from Admin. about putting Hoster on Vista.
I have 3.317 on my Vista and is installed into Program Files, but as I understand it, if I upgrade to 3.321, then I have to move all my files & install Hoster into C:\

If you don't move them then you would risk losing them. The location of those files under the Program Files and Documents and Settings was the main problem with Vista causing the loss.

Yes I understand that from reading what Admin posted.
I was simply responding to "Mindonstrike" so he could see where the problem lies.

From everything I've read in the posts, I'm wondering if I should just stick with 3.317 until 4.0 comes out.

And then, will 4.0 be more compatible with Vista?
or will Admin still recommend that we NOT use Hoster on Vista?

Hoster 3.321 has ALL the Vista fixes we will do for a LONG time (Lord willing). Hoster 4.000 already has the IDENTICAL changes we evolved, tested and polished in 3.321. There will be no difference.

MTUSUPPORT found on the MSN Developers Network that Vista SR1 was released to OEMs in Dec 07 or Jan 08. So, the "big boys" already have it, but it is "beta" for anyone else.

Now, since HP is one of the "big boys", one can assume they greedily pawed through SR1 as soon as they got it. Reasonable assumption?

So why in March did HP start offering FREE "downgrades" for their Vista customers to go back to XP? That says reams to me that HP considers Vista a serious liability to HP's survival to make that offer.

How long do you want to suffer with Vista?

It's your choice. We have done everything we will for Vista for the foreseeable future. 4.000 has what 3.321 has, and it seems to be working correctly.

I guess what I really want to know is - because 3.317 is already on my laptop with Vista, will I need to go through that process of moving files (out of Program Files) before I can upgrade/install even 4.0?

I know at one point Admin did recommend NOT putting Hoster on Vista. Do you still feel the same way, or would you still recommend downgrading to XP?

Even with 3.317 on Vista you could be vulnerable.

I had Hoster 3.315 on my laptop with Vista and seems to be working fine (my last downloaded upgrade is 3.315). I bought 3.321 upgrade but it would not install on my laptop with vista home premium (access denied). I wrote to HP about downgrading my OS to XP pro, they told me I have to buy the XP on a retailer and retail version would not work on my laptop b'cause some driver issues. They gave me a litany of links for all drivers and it just overwhelmed me. I would just stick with it for awhile with this 3.315 on my laptop until I got my Desktop rebuild and going (XP pro OS) and perhap would asked MTU how to de-authorized my laptop (vista) so I could use my registration on rebuilt desktop.

It should install. What was the exact error message?
