Found 1198 files !!! Now what???

Whoopie...the one program I was suggested to use (yea easy enough for a blond) found 1198 of my kma files...
Now I have them recovered but how do I bring them back into hoster???
Since when entering CD's into hoster, each one is numbered how do I bring these files in so that they will show in the book?
After I upgraded to 3.320 when my files were missing my # started back at 1...
Am I explaining myself here????
Also could these files be damaged now and not work right?? Daah guess I'll find that out when I figure out how to bring them into hoster!!!!
Sorry everyone ....But any help would be great...

First make sure they are backed up in case something happens again. That way you won't have to recover them again.
Second make sure they are moved to the correct folder (C:\MTU\Hoster\Songs) or an external drive, so Vista doesn't delete them again.
Then just rebuild your database in Hoster (Tools/Build Database). Be sure you remove the old folders listed and add the new location before you click on "Build Database" button.

Songs back from cyber space

WOW
Ok so I found a bunch of my lost KMA files...but:::
Upon bringing them into hoster, I found that even though I found alot of them that hoster woundn't pull them up after using building song data base.
My recovered file may of shown 15 songs on a CD being recovered, but hoster would only pull up maybe 6 of them..
I decided to go and step further and check these tracks that were in hoster..
I found: my tracks were actually back from some unknown cyber mission. They came back not playing at all with only an error coming up..
Some came up to play with the words, and no music..
Some came up with music and no words...
I even had some that came up for a split second and then just disappeared!
A couple came back as some foreign bla bla instead of the song title (kinda like "*&-#j9+^%$@) I actually think that track went all the way to Japan and back...Had it of played it probably would of been in Japanese anyhow
I even had one that was an Elvis song, came up with just his face- no music, on words just his face...Must of been a gift from above but sorry to the king, I'll have to delete it...
Just wondered if anyone else who had recovered files had this problem.
And......will I be able to carry my laptop, while using my walker when I finally get this all completed?????
Thanks for all the help!!!! Your all Wonderful!!!!

We expect to release Hoster 3.321 on Monday. It embodies all we have found out about UPGRADING on Vista and how Windows was misbehaving to delete your KMA files. We truly believe 3.321 will work with 2000, XP and Vista.

One of our Beta Testers talked to an HP representative who said HP is not expecting Vista to be ready for public use for 2 more years. HP is allowing users to replace Vista with XP. That's an interesting tidbit.

Wow didn't you all just get finished with 3.320 ??? Do you all every sleep out there???

I do have two more questions, well it's not like I'm gonna leave you alone after these questions, cause like that will probably never happen...haha..
But: I noticed after I recovered my files that I did from Cyber space like I said how weird they alot of them were, is that like normal??? It's like there was noone there to yell out to the files "don't go near the light"....
Second question: I ran the program recuva when I recovered my files, I moved them onto my D drive to hang out there until I got around to checking them out.
But I thought for the heck of it I'd run the recuva program again and see what would happen, it came back with the same stuff again...Like, it didn't really recover the files, but like copied them... It's like I have all this junk on here now that is taking up space. Isn't there a way I can delete these things?? I noticed it said the files were overwritten by another file, bla bla bla...If I right click I have the option to delete....Is it safe for me to delete these now so I can get some space back??? But if it's over written by something else would that be a big boo boo to delete..
Dumb Blond question???? LOL
Thank you SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!

oops I lied already....
One more question:... Is it safe for me to assume if Hoster won't pull up these other files it's because their not good and I should just delete them, and reload those CD's and do them again???
Ok...I think I can shut up for awhile...

New hoster users with lost files

My lost file Experience...

Well I tried to get some answers to the crazy mess my files ended up in, but have received no respond..So here is my final word..

After using recuva to retrieve my files, I discovered some disc's would come back but with tracks missing, some would come back with all the tracks or only one track.
My thought is kinda like throwing out a handful of salt, then trying to pick up all the grains and bring them back..haha...fat chance!!!

Now our good Admin posted: Critical : to be able to recover lost files do not delete more, import anything to hard drive.... well oops, that could of been my fault because I went right away and downloaded the next version of hoster..

Anyway things are as they are...So then I use my hoster and pull what files I found up by "add songs to data base".
Some of the found discs were brought up...others hoster ignored...In testing a few of the files now in hoster I found songs with no music, or no words, or just plan coming up as Error.
I had to end up checking every single file to see if it was going to work or not.
What a pain!!!
After seeing the weird stuff going on, and since I didn't get an answer on some questions I had asked, I went back into where I had saved my funky retrieved files and deleted all the ones that hoster would not recognize.. I figured it probably knew more than I did, and I'd rather use the discs again then to have to check each and every one of those songs also...
So after retrieving over 1000 files, I ended up with about 600 that were keepers..
Now I'm worring about figuring out what tracks I have to reload because they were either never retrieved or messed up. I thought I'd have to go through each disc, right down the tracks I need to replace.etc etc..But DON'T BOTHER WITH THAT!!! Hoster takes care of it for you...
I was so happy to find if say disc 3 came back with maybe only three tracks, when I but disc three back into my lap top, hoster see's it as disc 3 and shows me what files I already have...WOW NOW THAT WAS GREAT!!!
So hang in there, brush out the bugs, we're on a roll now!!!! And:
BACK UP !!!!! AAAAAAH!!!

And when you get them loaded back in ---- Backup, Backup, Backup! That way you can restore them next time something happens. This is the first time Hoster has ever done this, but many people have experienced hard drive and computer crashes that have wiped out their files.

Unhappy

Oh man, you are not alone. I did a recovery, managed to recover over 60% of what I had oringally lost (which, by the way, at the time of the original COMPLETION, everything was perfect, no bad copies, etc.) -- I am also in the position of having NOW to go back in and randomly check a lot of discs. I am probably 2-3 hours from having completed all the reloading but find that there are a lot of 'bad' files.

I have to go through pretty well all my discs, one at a time, query for song(s) and make sure they are readable. I also have to access the actual song database and take out the garbage.

Oh man, I hope this all works well once it's done...The time I have spent is just phenomenal...and to think, I could have been doing something FUN!!!!

It sure is a shame! Never in my 38 years before has a single file been lost because of a product my team has developed. We're still not sure Hoster did it, but it at least contributed to it. We know it was related to our removing the \Temp folder when Hoster ran and closed. This prevented the UNZIPPED file components from building up and eventually being prevented from playiang new ZIPs or KMA (HDZIP) files.

We expect to release 3.321 today that has been tested, and tested, and tested. We removed the code deleting the \Temp folder in 3.320, and files stopped disappearing so we KNOW we fixed that problem.

The other "features" that 3.321 solidifies is updating an existing Hoster installation PROPERLY, especially so VISTA won't hide your files from you. That has been another incredible eye-opener!

In 3.320, we moved the MTU Default Folder for importing KMA files. We studied and felt we understood that Microsoft's Vista wanted us to use their C:\Documents and Settings\... path for this. We did that, and later discovered the files were ending up under some \Public Files\ folder. Good grief! Does it take a PhD in Vistadom to make things run properly under it?

Hoster MUST know where your KMA files are to add them to the Songs Database so you can find, use and print them. When Microsoft moves them without any warning, or message where they went, that exceeds all comprehension of what they think a computer operating system should do for the user... or developer!

In 3.321, we create our own folders, not associated with Vista's "precreated folders". During all our testing, nothing has been moved. Files remain where we place them. The Planet is spinning on its right axis and all is stable again.

Watch for 3.321 later today. We have a small amount of housecleaning to do before releasing.

Signing off...

What location are your files in currently? I don't think you will have to as long as they are not under C:\Program Files\.....

Installing 3.321 has clear instructions you MUST perform, which includes moving your KMA files, and songs.mdb and playlistxxx.hst files you want to keep. We require you click an "I HAVE DONE..." radio button before Hoster will continue.

Moving the files are CRITICAL for Hoster to work reliably under Vista.
