database questions

If I manage my song database from my PC can i just transfer the database file to my laptop and it's good to go, or since the HDD have different volume names (E vs F) will that create problems. I guess I am wondering how to synchronize my PC and my laptop DB, I also want to consider back up laptops and HDD's while on a job, and am wondering how you all do this.

The difference in the drive letters will prevent the songs from playing on the laptop if you transfer the database file.
Just add the HDD (assuming external) and build the database on the laptop from scratch. This may take a few minutes but once it is done everything will play.

ok, so if you do it that way, then if you have all the songs on PC at home for back up and messing around, and then on your laptop, you are telling me that when i get a CD+G, I should do an import to each system, don't bother copying the files and moving them, or can i move imported files, and then just import them into system?? Or am I missing something?
thanks

Import them on one, copy the KMA files to the other and rebuild the database. That will add them to the second one without having to re-import them.

If you make sure and import always from one system then copy to the other you should not have any duplicate BookIDs. If you do end up with duplicates they will be listed in a log file. Then you can run the merge database instead of the rebuildand that will re-assign the Bookids of the duplicates to new ones.
If you just copy the new files to the second drive after importing them instead of trying to copy all again then you won't have a problem.
