I couldn't find the post you referenced but if you are looking for the sound levels setting in Vista here it is on mine. I've attached an image that will hopefully help you navigate.

After clicking Start/settings/control panel click the speaker icon which will open the "sound" panel, then select "speakers" from the playback tab, then click "properties" which will open a new panel called "speaker properties", click the levels tab then just make sure the slider is at 100%, make sure the button next to 100 isn't muted (like the button right below it), click balance to make sure that both left and right are at max.Click OK on the balance panel. Click "apply" and "OK" on the "speaker properties" panel. Click "apply" and "OK" on the "sound" panel.

And you should be done. Hope it helps.

Sam

I know this is a pretty basic question but I don't think we have yet established the answer.
Does your audio and video graphics work OK in any other progs on your Vista laptop?
If so what progs?

Another question.
Is your desktop also running Vista?
It might be useful to know what's different (or the same) about your 2 systems.

This is a very strange problem. Are you logged in as administrator on the machine? How much ram does it have? Does your Graphics Video card have 32MB or more of RAM and support Direct-X 9.0 or higher? Just some things to look at. I may be off base as usual. The graphics card info is a requirement to run hoster. I am no expert, but I believe direct-x has control of both audio and video, so if it is the wrong version it might be the culprit. Again, I could be wrong, but I would check to see which version is on the laptop. It seems like it should be 9.0 or greater with vista.
