I would stick with the lame_enc that Songverter recomends because thats the one Songverter was designed to work with.

Other versions may work for some things and not others (first hand experience here).

My Error

Of course the Songverter linked lame file was my first 20 tries. I tried others later. Sorry that was not clear. (20 may just be an exageration )

Lame_enc.dll file listed with Songverter is the only one that has all the functions needed. This is only used for MP3 (and MP3+G) conversions, so doesn't effect other formats.
As I said above both programs are being worked on currently for those problems you listed. Give them some time.
