Trouble with 3.316 update - FIX: Do Remove -vs- Update

I keep attempting to upgrade to the new 3.316 that was sent out today. The installation ALMOST completes...then I get

"Error 1706: No valid source could be found for product Hoster. The Windows Installer cannot continue."

I duplicated the problem. However, when I clicked the error 1706 message away (it was hiding underneith the install screen), it finished installing, and ran correctly. We tested it at MTU and didn't see this problem before (I was not on the test team).

When I did REMOVE instead of UPDATE, it did not show the error 1706 and installed normally.

Tonysjungle, try this and post back here what you find.

NOTE! Install 3.316 using REMOVE then reinstall.

I will try this! BUT - by uninstalling, will I lose my settings and data? (I'm new to hoster x 7 days and have been downloading cd's and getting settings right for the past week - ALL DAY!)

After not hearing a response to the above post, I uninstalled 3.115 and then installed 3.116 then did the restart.

Unfortunately, windows would then not start up no matter what I tried. I had to open in safe mode and noticed that ALL of my songs were gone that I'd spent all week downloading...all of my settings were gone...

I am now trying a system restore. I should have known better than to install a new update until it had been tested for awhile.

This sucks...guess I've gotta do my show tonight with my old system

Tony, all your KMA files are still in the folder you imported them into.

Set your Import CD Tracks screen "Save to Folder" to what it was before.

Then, be sure your Tools menu Build Songs Database command shows this same folder. If not, add it, then click the Build Songs Database button to re-create your Songs Database with everthing you had imported earlier. Then they will appear in all the Hoster search and add methods.

WARNING! Rebuild your Songs Database BEFORE you import any more songs or you can end up with duplicate BookIDs, which can be renumbered with the Tools menu Merge KMA Files command.

Its all there.

I always get the email about the next upgrade is available. Seems we just upgraded to Hoster3.315; now 3.316 is out? One, I did not get the email about the 3.316 upgrade; two, do you need to upgrade each version as it comes out, or can you skip one (let's say 3.316) and upgrade from 3.315 to 3.317? I don't even know what changes 3.316 have.

I did the remove then reinstall. It worked. However now when doing a search, clicking on the song you want a loud noise sounds. I have the sound settings for no sounds in the control panel. This only happens in Vista and not XP.

Jim, please answer these questions:

1. Are you positive you are installing 3.316, which you can see in the splash screen with the jukebox that appears BEFORE the installation screens start up. If you are installing 3.315, this error will appear, which is the main reason for our doing 3.316.

2. Are you sure you have done all Windows Updates? When at the Microsoft page that analizes your computer's Windows, click the CUSTOM button, not the EXPRESS button. It will come down, search your system, then recommend all uninstalled upgrades.

3. What Windows version are you runing?

4. Are you installing on a Laptop or any other type of computer? If a Laptop, how long ago did you buy it?

Last night I finished posting all the upgrades to the site at 9:00PM. Sorry, but I didn't get around to updating what changed.

Read about the single change here.

We don't expect any more releases under Hoster 3.3. We are now working on 4.0 and have ceased expanding 3.3. If there are any future upgrades, it will be bug fixes only. With Vista just coming out, there could be more things we have to track down.

Also,
If you just click Ok for this error message, the Source file can't be found, it will finish the install with no problem.

Similar Problem Installing 3.316

I am running XP on an MTU built mini PC. I do not take the machine online for any reason other than dl'ing updates.

When attempting to install 3.316, I got the following Exception Notice:

UNHANDLED EXCEPTION
Error Number 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find DLL function: _ismtu.SetProdId
Setup will now terminate.

I came to the forum to seek an answer, and after reading the thread, updated my XP with windows update, restarted and reattempted the update with the exact same results.

If the only change is adaptability to Vista, this is not the end of the world for me for now, until I possibly upgrade in the future to a laptop which I assume will be running Vista.

How long are free updates available? When 4.0 comes out, will that be a paid upgrade for everyone? Is there a downside for me to NOT make an effort to upgrade to 3.316 if I am not planning on using Vista in the near future?

THANKS.
