Playing music videos on Extended Desktop screen

I wonder if anyone else has this problem and maybe a solution?

I bought hoster recently becuyase of it videop caperbilities, my intentionis to queue up singer, video, singer, video etc to run my nights.

However where using extened desktop to output the signers on a video screen while I run the main hoster screen on my laptop, I notice that music videos will not place on the extened screen only the local laptop screen.

I notice that if I use Windows Media Player I do not have this problem, videos will play on either or even both screens (half and half) at the samer time.

Can anyone help with a solution, I have switched th extened desktop to the priamry screen which works of a fashion but means my audience gets to see all the icons on my desktop, not what I would call a professional solution.

Thanks for any advice
Paul

Thanks for the quick reply, but this doesnt solve my problem.

My singers display works on the extended desktop screen, no problem and I appreciate that the 'video' display screen appears in exactly the same place.

What I am saying is that videos are not reproduced on the extened display, you can hear but not see them. Whereas if the video screen is on the primary then you can see as well as hear the video.

Thanks again
Paul

Paul,
The first time you use a video, you have to stretch the video over to the other screen. After that, It will always appear over there when needed.

Not exactly sure what you are trying to say, but if you are saying you can see it on your monitor OR the TV but not both at the same time...you would be correct. Unlike KMA's, you do not have a display on both.

Nope thats not really what I am tring to say.

My set up as follows:

Screen 1 - My laptop with hoster
Screen 2 - LCD Projector via s-video connection

Configuration set up so screen 2 is 'extened desktop'

Thus my singers and audience view the extended desktop with almost full screen lyrics, I leave a small gap at the top for my logo which is part of my windows destop background.

When karaoke is playing the audience can see lyrics no problem
When music videos play the same audience screen (2) is black

However, if I move the the lyrics window to screen 1, and therefore by default move the video window to the same position, I can see the videos.

Ergo videos will only display on the primary screen

Hope this clears things up a bit

OK now I understand, unfortunately I don't have any advice to offer, except that if someone here doesn't suggest something (or perhaps while you're waiting), ask support from the graphics card maker or laptop maker.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks for coming back to me Sam, it is very strange, I'm pretty sure it's not the graphics card of my laptop it has quite a powerful ATI card as my laptop is gaming spec.

I am currently using windows media player to play my videos which happily plays them on either screen. it's a solution to the problem but the reason I paid for hoster was for the video caperbilities, I wonder if anyone out there can help

Yes, I think I can. In addition to setting the second monitor after right clicking on the desktop, you may also have to get to your sound card display setup and click on a setting that indicates "dual display". Some soundacrd setup programs require that additional step.

Also, make sure you have the computer plugged into the projector and the projector on before you turn on the computer. Some computers require that as well.

Thanks for the reply Bryant, sadly there is no dual screen option for my sounds device, and yes I have to connect to the projector before starting up.

oh sheesh, I meant your video card setup.
There usually is a setup page to get to. Sometimes it's on the right click on desktop (it'll say the name of the card), and sometimes it's on the advanced tab in the windows display settings, and sometimes you have to look for it in the control panel under display devices.

Take a look in those places.

haha, I thought it was a bit odd, but I did check my sound card

As for video card, yes the ATI setting are correct for dual screen output, as I can it works fine with media player, just not with the hoster window.

What you have to do is play a regular song and bring the singers screen to your screen, and resize it to 99% of the screen. Then drag it over to the other screen. Then when you see it over there, double click on it and it will fill the screen. Now when you play videos, they will appear in that resized screen. (the one jist before you dubble-clicked to fill). that's why you want it stretched out as much as possible when it appears on the second screen. Try that?

It's not that, it's nothing to do with the position, the window is there it's just black when videos play.

I can set it so the singers screen appears on top on the media payer screen and this is my temp work around, however it defeats the reason I bought Hoster for.

Pure speculation here but I noticed that on some file types WMP did not require an outside codec, whereas Hoster (and many other video players) requires an outside codec just to play many of the file types.
What I'm suggesting is perhaps the codec provided by windows is having problems with the ATI cards extended desktop.
I had problems playing many file types until I installed the ffdshow video codec.

just a thought

I would also say that it is the Codecs, missing from your computer. Here is a Knowledgebase FAQ on this, it has the same file link in it that Beavis is referring to, as he is the one that gave it to us.
