Open Hoster.
Click on Tools/build database
Select the folder on the external drive that has the KMA files.
Then click to rebuild the database.
That should give you access to all of the KMA files in that folder.

When that completes then you should be able call up any of them by BookID or do a search on them by any number of items.

Just curious but does anyone here have both hoster and their kma's installed on an external drive and run their shows off of the external drive?

I've been considering this as I'm running out of space on my laptop due to my library is outgrowing storage capacity and I have purchased a backup laptop to carry in my car in case my primary goes down.

It would be nice to have Hoster and Kma's on the external so the downtime would be minimal.

Is this possible? If it is, what would the proceedure be for getting it installed and setup to work?

You could certainly (and should) have your KMA's backed up on an external, most folks using laptops use the external drive for there KMA's. However Hoster (as does most software) installs and accesses files from the Windows folder, and besides Hoster would quickly realize it's not on the computer it was initially installed on and refuse to work.

I thought that might be the case. I'll probably purchase hoster lite for the backup laptop and that will do the trick.

thanks for the reply!

Bob, did Ddouglass' instructions solve your problem? They accurately gave you to what you needed to do.

So, if I copy/paste/send all my kma's on my laptop to my external USB hard drive, HOSTER cannot/will not read them (access them) from the external USB hard drive? I will be using the laptop for my shows and am still loading all my cdg's (200 more cdg's to go)- only have about 0.48 Gig left on my laptop hard drive. Was wanting to use the external drive as it has 3X capacity of my small internal hard drive on the laptop.
Also, can HOSTER save the remaining 200 more cdg KMA's directly to the external hard drive instead of putting them into the internal laptop drive?
Thanks,
Don

You will just need to rebuild the database (Tools/Build Songs Database) so that it reads the files in the new location, besure and remove the old location and add the new one. If you've already started ripping your last 200 CDG's to the new location it will already be on the list.

You wouldn't want to use it with the drive that full as it slows things way down and you want to have at least 15% of it free for defragging purposes. Goes for your external drive as well.

Yes, in the import CD tracks screen use the "save to folder" button to tell hoster where you want the KMA's sent. Hoster will automaticly add this new location to your "song source folders" in the "build songs database" screen

also make sure the drive letter doesnt change when you start windows up, this will cause it not to play.

to further expand on the hoster running on the external theme, it was suggested to me to load hoster on an external hard drive in case the computer crashes.
is it not possible to put hoster on an external to portect it?

The only way you need to protect Hoster is to keep a copy of the setup program, so you can re-install it if you have a computer crash. Installing the program on an external hard drive will cause the program to slow down due to access time for the drive. It really is not a good idea to install it any place other than the C:\Program Files folder. As Mindonstrike said above Hoster does access other files in the Windows folder and may not know where to find them if it is installed on a different drive. Hoster also keys on the computer which means you would not be able to run it from another computer.
Hoster allows for 2 installs on your primary and backup computer, so as long as your KMA files are on the external you can switch that drive to the backup computer and continue on.

now is there a way to move the hoster program from the external to the C:/ drive since i alrady installed it there?

Moving the program doesn't work as there is more than just the files in the Hoster folder. There are registry entries as well as files in the Windows directory that are needed, so no that won't work. If you have only installed it on the one computer then you can still install it on his.
If you have already installed it on 2 computers then you will need to remove it from one and submit a support web-email to get your registration reset.
