The MERGE Database command is not to physically move the KMA files from one location to another. Its purpose is to add the new songs to your existing database the same as the REBUILD Database with one exception. It also checks to make sure you do not have 2 CDGs listed for the same BookID. This way if you accidently re-use a BookID when you are importing with Hoster on your desktop MERGE will renumber the duplicate to the next available BookID number.

All you need to do is import your CDGs with Hoster on your desktop computer, copy the KMA files to the laptop, open Hoster on the laptop and run the MERGE Database. Simple as that.
