I hate to say this but it sounds like the op system did not load right at hp

when you shut down it did not save your video setting that is why you had to go back to a old restore

with all the diff problem you are seeing i whould have them reload the op system or if you know how to do it your self try a few more things if it does not help reload you op system good luck
