A DAO error has to do with database access. Hoster's database files are in Access 97 format.

A couple of question come to mind as far as the installation goes. You state you are running Windows XP SP2. Do you have all the updates since then?

Do you have NetFrame installed? This is required as well but does need to be installed first before installing Hoster.

Are you running any version of MS Office or Works on this computer? If so again you need to make sure you have all the updates for it.

If you have Restore turned on, I would recommend you try that to get back to your Hoster version 3.303. Make sure it is working ok. Then:
  1. Update your Windows XP
  2. Install NetFrame if not already installed (should be listed as part of the updates for XP)
  3. Then run the Hoster install using the "Upgrade"
Be sure you reboot after each step so XP can finish the install of that item.

Thanks for your reply!

1. I have Microsoft Office for XP pro installed. It is the 2002 version. I have not gotten any updates for it that I know of.
2. I do have netframe version 2 installed
3. The version of XP Pro I have installed is not the xp2 version. I installed the regular verision and then installed every update that was available at the time. This included sp2 and sp2 updates. This was done not more than 3 weeks ago.
4. Hoster version 3.303 was the first version of Hoster installed on this machine as it is a new machine that I built and dedicated to KJ. I have done 2 shows from this machine, the last one being last night.
5. I can and have restored to a restore point just prior to the Hoster Version 3.310 version install.
6. I have Hoster version 3.310 installed on my other machine and it works fine. I also have NetFrame and Office XP pro installed on that machine. The biggest difference between the two machines is that I have not updated the XP Pro SP2 updates on the machine that works properly with Hoster Version 3.310.
7. The last install I did of Hoster Version 3.310 on the new machine was done with the update exe file placed in the my documents folder on my C:\drive and I did the upgrade install. I have never had this problem on my older machine.
I can and will go back to Version 3.303 until I find out what is going on. It is not critical because I have my backup machine(Original) but I would like to be able to use the newer version of hoster on the new machine. I will get all the updates for Office XP pro and double check for sp2 service pack updates. If there is anything else you can think of please let me know.

Thanks again

I finished everything you thought might work.

1. Restored to Version 3.303
2. Got the rest of the windows updates I did not have ( 2 ) one of them was an access database security update.
3. Got all of the Microsoft Office updates
4. Reinstalled Hoster Version 3.310 using the update installation choice.

None of this worked. Can you think of anything else?

Your suggestions are appreciated!!!

Thanks

George, did you get the same error the second time? Did it give you a number?

I seem to remember that when we were Beta testing this version, several of us had a problem with the song.mdb file being corrupt. This could be the case here since DAO is an Access problem. Try deleting your song.mdb file. Then open Hoster. If this was the problem then it should rebuild the song.mdb file and all will be well.

For your problem with the Plextor drive the only thing I can think of is firmware update for the drive. I know there is one on Plextor site as I saw it listed today. I have a 760 also, so I need to update mine as well.

Hope this works.

I did get the same error #. It is 1706 (No valid source could be found for product DAO. Windows Installer cannot continue). However, I only get this error code after Windows repeatedly trys to find the DAO installation package and I finally hit the cancel key.
I did delete the song.mdb and songbackup.mdb files. When I started Hoster, this is what happened:

1. I start Hoster.
2. The next screen says Please wait while Windows configures DAO(Gathering Information).
3. The progress bar starts across its box but stops.
4. Another popup box comes up and says. "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. In the middle of the popup box there is a line that says "Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package DAO.msi in the box below." The box below contains the folder where Windows is looking for the installation package. This location is c:\Docume~1\Locals~1\temp\_is2 something.
5. I click ok several times with the same results.
6. I click cancel
7. I get the 1706 error.
8. I click ok.
9. Hoster starts and automatically rebuilds the database.
It appears to me that the new installation or upgrade installation of Hoster triggers the DAO installation. The installation of Hoster must delete the prior DAO installation and so it must be installed again. It also appears to me that if I could point Windows to the location of the DAO installation package, it might be able to install it and everything would be fine.
After Hoster starts, I can search for songs etc. and it finds them, they will play and everything seems fine but I have not tested everything I might do during a show.

I am able to import a cdg disk into the playlist. I have not tried to import anything into the database as of yet.

Do you know if Hoster deletes files and rebuilds them or what Hoster does when you select upgrade installation option?

As for my Plextor, I believe I have the latest firmware upgrade because that is the first thing I do after I get a new drive is to check for firmware updates but I will check their website. The drive seems to working fine though.

Thanks

Bryan is on vacation this week, but I will email him to take a look at this. If he can't answer, he will be back on Monday.

I would NOT do an upgrade when you are having problems. Run the Hoster 3.310 Installation program and select REMOVE. This will remove Hoster and related installed components.

Then, run the Installation program again, and it will want to install from scratch. Do this and post back here what happens.

Hoster includes the Access 97 Jet Engine install package. This should add Access 97 to your computer. I don't remember anyone having a DAO error, which as Dale said is related to the database, after doing a REMOVE and INSTALL.

Thanks!

I was going to try to do the remove option but I thought I would wait to get some feedback. I will do an install with the delete option and let you know.
